Skins vs Steelers game

So, I'm watching the Skins/Steelers game, and every time the announcers speak, they are calling Hightower's name.

Star-divide

Now I'm left to wonder if the Cards traded away the wrong back, considering the apathy Beanie with his running style to the Raiders game. I believe Tim averaged 4.4 yards a carry in this game. Yes, preseason, but he ran as if he wanted to. Beanie looks timid. In fact my prediction is Williams taking the #1 back spot before mid season.

Maybe

We don’t know who will be better yet, lets see if Beanie can hold onto the job first.

Maybe,

but I would have to say Hightower is worth more to a different team, he has a stronger case of fumbilitis, but his production and versatility are solid

I think R Williams will be the starter by Opening Week.....

and I see Beanie the same way you do.

No chance.

The Cardinals will remain a passing team. Maybe a more balanced one, but still a pass first team. Williams will not have the mastery of pass protection necessary in that short a time to make the starting lineup. Beanie looked complacent. The others all played with some fire. Williams will eventually overtake Beanie if he doesn’t change his attitude but it won’t be that soon.

No, but if Williams

ends up gouging defenses about 5 yards at a time, we will most certainly make opponents beat us on the ground before we take chances in the air.

Until I see that happen consistantly

I will have a hard time believing the Cardinals are not a pass first team.

I liked Hightower, and am pleased with what he did for us, fumbles aside. He was a hard worker, and he went 110% to get the most out of himself. But I think we saw the best of him, and I think we need better. Beanie, while disappointing, is still a bit of a wild card, with upside. And while its too soon to gauge with RWilliams, he looked quicker and faster than Hightower.

Time will obviously tell. I hope Hightower is successful!!

Hightower was the right choice to trade.

He was a RFA with fumble issues. He had his moments but lacked consistancy. It looks like a win – win deal for both parties. Hightower has a legitimate shot at winning and holding the starting position in Washington. If he keeps a hold on the ball he will do well there.

Wells is going into only his third year. He showed some promise but struggled with injury. His contract is through 2013. Williams will push him for playing time. Wells will have to step up his game or get kicked back to #2. By the time his 5 year contract is up there will be no questions left about him. That could not be said for Hightower.

Thank you

for the question. I believe we had seen the best of Hightower.

But I will miss his blitz protection. He made those LBs or safeties pay when they blitzed! Beanie had that pretty good run before he was stopped 3 or 4 times in a row at the goal line. If he had made it in, no one would question his ability. I still think he could be a consistent 1,000 yard runner.

i agree with this comment...

everyone is on Beanie so much right now after one bad set of downs… everyone should keep in mind that it was the first preseason game, and i have heard nothing but good things about beanie in camp. he showed during the lockout that he was ready by coming in heavier with less body fat. that means he gained a bunch of muscle. lets hold off the judging until we see a few games with a steady lineup. the preseason will be jumbled lineups, and guys playing against 2nd and 3rd stringers… he had a good ypc average his rookie year, and i think all statistics from last year are garbage since defenses pretty much decimated the cards knowing that the passing attack was practically worthless. wells still managed 3.5 ypc last year and that with every team KNOWING he would get the ball if he was in on a play.

Indeed

Beanie has obviously gotten ready for a pounding for a reason, and although he stalled so close to the goal line, how about the beautiful stiff arm earlier in the drive?

Anyone hear Hightower interviewed by Mike Jurecki?

It was yesterday (Wed 8/17). I only caught the end of it, but it sounded as though Timmy was not happy with Whiz. He didn’t necessarily take any shots (that I heard), but he said he was confused or frustrated (my words) by not having his role clearly defined….
