Ask A Giants Fan

Hello Arizona Cardinals Fans! My name's Will, and I've become the unofficial representative of BBV who posts the "Ask a fan of team x" fanposts that many teams do.

I'm sorry to say I had something awesome planned out that I just haven't had the time to do justice to. It looks sort of like this, and info dump of tons of historical and current stats. Anyways, the following half assed stats will have to do:

Eli Manning and Tom Coughlin are 2-0 playing in Glendale, Arizona, and are 1-1 vs the Cardinals. Historically, the Giants have owned the old NFC East rivalry, with an 80-42-2 record (.653).

After this game, Kolb will have played against all of his former team's divisional rivals (0-2 as a starter).
And perhaps the most meaningless stat: Coughlin is undefeated in Week 4 as coach of the Giants (5 wins, two bye weeks).

This will also be Rolle's home coming of sorts.

Questions? Comments? Whatever? Ask em here

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Revenge of the Birds' (ROTB) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of ROTB's editors.

i'll give it a try

so far we’re adjusting to the injuries. if there was any good part of it, it was that they all came before the season started, for the most part. so we were able to adjust right away, and the new guys knew there role and are able to adjust.

As far as our strengths, i’d say our D-line, both in run and passing game, and surprisingly our LBs! our rookie backers Jaquain Williams and Greg Jones have been solid, along with a refurbished Michael Boley. and our safety play has been fantastic.

I think eli has gotten a bad rap this offseason for his elite comments. he was asked the question, and couldn’t answer any other way. as far as his game, well he has a passer rating of over 100 for the season so far, and the plays that last year may have ended up as INTs are ending up as sacks this year, as he’s not forcing throws, and living to fight another down.

i predict a hard fought game, i think Kolb has something to prove to the East Coast audience he know will be tuning in to watch. in the end, i think we pull it out late.

Yes, I am a Giants fan. Now that we got that out of the way....

Dre said it pretty well

I’ll just add my thoughts along

The team is doing well considering the injuries. Ross has seemingly turned it around from his terrible first two games. If he can stay consistent, it really helps there. And like Dre said, most of the injuries came before the season, so we have time to compensate for it.

Our strengths are definitely the D-line. In week 1, we had our 3rd and 4th DE on the depth chart start for us and they still got plenty of depth. Not sure how bad Tuck’s injury is, but Osi is coming back soon should really help. All 4 of our DTs are playing like monsters. Our Red zone defense has been stellar, mustly thanks to them.
Like Dre said, our LBers have really improved, although not sure they’re really “strengths” yet, especially compared to the D-line.

Manning is my QB and I love him. Is he Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers “elite”? No.
But he can win and is the right QB for this team.

As for my 100% guaranteed to be wrong prediction, I think this game will be the easiest the Giants have played so far

Well...

Eli has as many Super Bowl trophies as 2 of the 3 you mentioned. As long as he keeps the INTs down, he looks as good as anyone.

Who would win in a fight, Eli Manning or Michael Vick?

If you could trade for any Cardinals player, who would it be?
If you could rename the Giants anything you wanted, what would it be?

Interesting fact, you guys are named the Giants, and so are the San Francisco Giants, a baseball team. We’re the Arizona Cardinals, and there’s the St.Louis Cardinals, a baseball team too.

by Skii on Sep 28, 2011 12:07 AM MDT reply actions

Eli Manning

one, cause right now he’d only have to watch for Vick’s left, and 2, Eli is huge and Vick is tiny.

if i could have one Card, who would it be? most would say Larry Fitz, cause obviously he’s your star. i however like our WR corps, and altho Fitz would be an instant upgrade, i’m gonna go another direction. i’ma say Calais Campbell. he’s still young, he’s improving every season, and he’s tall as hell! like 6’6", 6’7" if i’m not mistaken? add him to the interior of our line with Canty(who’s 6’8" himself) and that’d be a line that would give QBs fits to throw over. add to that JPP’s plastic man arms, and you’ve got a wall there.

i wouldn’t rename the Giants anything. maybe i’d rename them the Vagiants, because Eagles fans seem to think that bothers us. not me; i love vagiant.

yeah we share a name with that baseball team, that’s why old school guys still say new york football giants. not sure if you know, but the SF Giants were once the New York Giants. that’s why the football is still put in front of our name.

Woahh

we have a guy on our post with a very similar name.

Manning, cuz he’d break Vick’s skull with his superbowl ring with a good punch.
Easily Fitzgerald. Love Nicks and Manningham, but Fitz is ridic.

The New York Football Giants is as good of a name as you could get.

the Baseball Giants used to be in New York, along with the Dodgers. In fact the two giants teams used to play in the same stadium. My grandfather hasn’t cared about baseball since they left.

I’m sure you probably know, but the football Cardinals used to reside in St. Louis too. And wayyyyy before that in Chicago, along with the Decateur Staleys (or the current Chicago Bears).

A lot of us don't like Antrel Rolle around here

He was a decent player, but we felt he was overrated. He liked to run his mouth like an idiot, and for every big interception return he made he would get burned by someone five times.

I’ve also seen that he has made a lot of stupid comments since he went to New York, like the “booing us is like booing soldiers coming back from war” comment or whatever it was that he said.

A lot of us think that Kerry Rhodes was an upgrade. How do you guys feel about him?

Well before we had Rolle

Our safeties were absolute shit. He’s probably overpaid, but he was worth it to the team. Rolle has played more times than not as the in the box safety, where he’s really excelled.

Yes he’s made plenty of stupid comments, but I don’t really care.

Haven’t seen Rhodes down in Red and White, but if he’s anything close to what he was while with the Jets, Rhodes <<<< Rolle

by Willgfass on Sep 28, 2011 2:35 PM MDT up reply actions

Im more towards a even split with the 2 .

Rhodes = Rolle

Unless of course at some point Fuel starts utilizing his play making ability much like in Arizona. Tackling on the other hand Rolle > Rhodes

I may not be the most noble of men but in a town of lepers, im the one with the most fingers.

by Troy O on Sep 28, 2011 4:38 PM MDT up reply actions

i can go with that

in his first few seasons with the jets, Rhodes was a playmaker. then he got his riches and got soft. when you can’t excel on a defense friendly team like the new look jets, something ain’t right.

Rolle still got that mouth on him JoeCB, but i love it personally. he brings passion to the team, something that i think was sorely lacking last season. and he’s played outstanding this season so far, in a double role as our nickel CB on 3 receiver sets.

Not a chance

that Rolle is a better tackler than Rhodes, that’s the difference in the two with Rhodes not at FS I don’t cringe every time a play comes his way and Rolle takes a bad angle or bites on a play fake.

^

with Rolle not at FS for the Cardinals anymore^

by INSOMAN1ATIC on Sep 29, 2011 5:28 AM MDT up reply actions

maybe something has change since they both left

I see a lot of Jet games and unless he was blitzing his tackling “skilz” left something to be desired. Rolle has been sure fire . playing down low.

Rolle takes a bad angle or bites on a play fake.

our DC hasn’t put him in those situations very much. which is the reason we haven’t seen the big int return.

Wow.

That is a big change for Rolle. His playmaking ability was his best asset here. His decision making in attempting to make those plays was probably the cause of most of his failings here too. Of course, the first thing our new defensive coordinator did upon assuming his position was fire the defensive backs coach. The tackling has been noticably better from our entire defense this season.

by hadrarius on Sep 29, 2011 8:09 PM MDT up reply actions

i think

it’ll be interesting to see how both safeties have grown since we last saw them. i was a big Rhodes supporter til he s#it the bed here in NY.

Have not seen Rhodes since he left the Jets

But his last couple of years with the Jets he was terrible, he got beat all the time and almost looked like he lost the will to stick his head in and make a tackle. Rex thought he was more concerned with his modeling career than his football career and would not play him.

I agree Rolle is certainly not great but he has solidfied our secondary, before him we had CC Brown back there that was a nightmare

How has your offensive line played?

There was mention of Eli Manning taking sacks instead of throwing INTs. Has the line been protecting him well enough?

by hadrarius on Sep 28, 2011 4:23 PM MDT reply actions

IMO not that great

Eli’s taking the same amount of hits at this point last yr. But its easy to see all the peaces haven’t really come together as yet. Am yet to see the nice push i was expecting in the run game either .

C Baas (still feeling his way around) and RT Kareem McKenzie ( getting up there in age) could be areas that the Cards may want to try an exploit.

I may not be the most noble of men but in a town of lepers, im the one with the most fingers.

They've played ok

Baas is new, so he has an excuse.

Diehl was moved from LT to LG and he’s been an absolute sieve. Completely inexcusable, but didn’t look as bad vs the Eagles.
McKenzie is getting old, but I’m not sure if it was just a matter of facing some great young pass rushers on the Redskins look old.
Beatty isn’t perfect, but he’s much better than our revolving door (due to injuries) last year.

He is being asked to do things entirely new to him, such as drop into coverage. The new defense is coming along in fits and starts. Dockett is I think in no exception to that general rule.

As a former detractor

I’ve been happy with his play, relatively. He needs to improve on a few things, but he get’s an early pass due to the lock out.
Needs to work on bailing from the pocket, throwing from his back foot and forcing mistakes from trying to make the big play.
What he’s good at, good accuracy, better than expected mobility and making big plays.
Basically the guy is either gonna torch you or he is going to be average. I do not think we will see too many DA style terrible games.
Will he be elite? I don’t think so, but he can be a top QB in the tier 2 class; like Manning and Schaub.
