Should the Cardinals trade Kevin Kolb to Cleveland
An article in the Cleveland paper suggests the Browns may be interested in Kolb. Their coach and GM both were with the Eagles and scouted Kolb when Philly drafted him. It also points out how Kolb is a West Coast QB, which is what Cleveland runs and Arizona doesnt. Cleveland has the 4th, 22nd and 37th picks this year and would probably part with the 37th pick and mabye a mid rounder for him. Personally, I think Kolb deserves one FULL year in Az before he is given up on. It was not too long ago that it was said that the decision to aquire Kolb would determine Whisenhunts future with the team. What do you think? Should we let Kolb go to Cleveland and roll with Skelton?

Its an interesting thought
Kolb would do much better in a West Coast Offense but who is he going to throw the ball to in Cleveland? The Cardinals could use a 2nd round pick with the holes on this team, but I dont see it happening. I just hope the O-line gets shored up or another concussion is pretty much guaranteed. And I just read Russ Grimm has been offered an extension

Wait!
Another concussion…..?…… NOooooooOOOooo….. wait….. did you say Grimm was offered an extension….?….NOOoooooOOooo!!!! If Kolb gets any more than one more concussion, he’s going to retire I guarantee. It would be too much of a risk to his health to stay in the league and continue getting more head trauma. Plus he could easily leave and he’d still be set for life!

Description of West Coast Offense
“West Coast Offense” (“WCO”) is a common term for an offense that places a greater emphasis on passing than on running.
There are two similar but distinct offensive-strategic-systems of play which are commonly referred to as “West Coast Offenses”: (A) the Air Coryell system popularized by Don Coryell; or (B) more commonly the offensive system popularized by Bill Walsh characterized by short, horizontal passing routes in lieu of running plays to “stretch out” defenses, opening up the potential for long runs or long passes.
Where the term came from ???? The term “West Coast Offense”, as it is now commonly used, derives from a remark made by then-New York Giants coach Bill Parcells after the Giants defeated the San Francisco 49ers 17-3 in the 1985 playoffs. Parcells, a believer in tough defense over finesse-oriented offense, scornfully derided the 49ers’ offense with the statement, “What do you think of that West Coast Offense now?”

Atleast that's what it says in Wikipedia
If I tried to describe it, it definitely wouldn’t be as good or organized as this. And I probably would have written a novel trying to do so lol

We want
The 22nd and 37th…. At least equal value of what we gave up to get him right? I wouldnt trade him for less then a 1st and 3rd

There's only one problem with that.....
if that’s what you’re expecting to get for him, you must see some value in him right? If that’s the case, why not keep him? I don’t think he’s been given enough of a chance with the team yet. All but one of the games we lost were close. I think with this offseason, we’ll see another Kolb. fingers crossed

I'd be shocked if this happened
Kolb still hasn’t had the opportunity to show if he can learn this offense and be a strong QB. I don’t see the Cards pulling the trigger on this trade without an offer they can’t refuse-a 1st round pick.

The cleveland.com article you linked
suggests that they should pick up on Kolb AFTER he’s been dropped. that won’t happen anytime soon.

No way would anyone offer a 1st round pick for Kolb
If Kolb didn’t yield a 1st round pick when he was dubbed as the next franchise quarterback, then we aren’t getting that for what he did this year.

Kolb, straight up for a 2nd round pick?
I’d do it in a heartbeat, because I don’t believe in Kolb, but the question is what do we do at QB? The thought of Skelton/Bartel/Rookie or FA under center, does not give me confidence for making the playoffs.
We could only be so lucky,
to get a 5th for him, it will be like Christmas in the spring if the Kolb expirement ended.

If we signed Peyton, sure
The thing is, Kolb will be much improved next season so we would only be shooting ourselves in the foot.

Put on the brakes,
Kolb should be much improved, and he has some major durability issues, which is a huge red flag.

Oh really,
so it’s a SURE thing that Kolb will be improved, please define improved? Last season was nothing to build on for him.

The game against Dallas was something to build on
But you’re right, let’s cut our QB who didn’t even get a full season.
Joe Saunders: "They Giants played a really good game, so hats off to us"
If last season was (as you said)
nothing to build on for him, then there is literally nowhere to go but up. Either way though, he should benefit greatly from having another season, and his first full off-season as a cardinal. He should, and i full expect him to, be much better than he was this season. More comfortable in the pocket and with the plays, better chemistry with the receivers, more familiar with our spread offense. All of this will lead to a better season

Time to cut our losses
I say we get whatever we can for him, and sign Peyton Manning or have John Skelton start next season.
Keep it real!!
all those ready to dump the man lets give it another year with more pieces in place. Keep hearing about his pocket presence yet remembe he took some shots hanging in there to deliver the ball. Over time Ol got better feel he would have also as evident by 2nd hald of Dallas game. Soory but Jons accuracy still needs work especially when he throws passes directly to the defensive backs. All those who have made up their minds on Kolb you have done it with very small work.
It's not a performance issue with Kolb,
it’s a durability issue, just cool down there whistlebritches.

I voted option #3
I’ve never been anti-Kolb (though I also never liked the trade for him) and I’ve defended him this season, but if we could actually get a 2nd rounder and mid-rounder for Kolb….I think it’s a no-brainer. We take it and run. Keep going with Skelton, bring in someone else to push him, and let another team develop Kolb, absorb his huge contract, and risk his injury history.
They won't trade for him
They’d just give him a look if we cut him.
by forget on Jan 11, 2012 12:49 PM MST via mobile reply actions
I agree with 2 or 3 BUT....
It’s just wishful thinking. NO ONE WILL GIVE UP SQUAT FOR KOLB, and his value is diddly poo right now. That’s why I would just threaten to cut him and restructure his contract- that way we can actually keep him and hedge our bets on him.
If we were to trade him
I’d want at least a 1st Rounder.
And if it were to happen, we’d better have a better plan than just gambling and sticking with Skelton. I’d want us to have a plan to get someone like Flynn, and let them compete, or something like that.
Joe Saunders: "They Giants played a really good game, so hats off to us"
This
I would want at least a 1st rounder and we would need more then just Skelton on the roster as a viable option. We still don’t even know if either of these QBs can step up for us and I am not comfortable by having only 1 of them if they are to remain on the roster,

Cardinals, Suns, D-backs for life!
I would only do this if they parted with pick 37.
Then, I would use that pick to select Russell Wilson out of Wisconsin. However, I prefer we not trade Kolb yet until we can see what he can fully do.
First off I wasn't sure where to ask this and I didn't want to put up a thread just for an answer.
Anyway does anyone have an offseason schedule link? I’ve looked and I can’t find one for 2012. All the dates not just senior bowl, nfl combine and draft but the whole pie. It would be much appreciated.

Even if this WAS a possibility, why would Cleveland want to trade for Kolb when Matt Flynn is set to be a FA?
Mike Holmgren has the Green Bay connections and acquired a certain Packer back up by the name of Hasselbeck, first name Matt when he coached for Seattle.

I don't get the Matt Flynn Love
The dude has played in 1 game, and it as with the Packer’s well-oiled machine. He could be Matt Cassel 2.0
He's played a bit more than that... I do see the potential whether or not it's realized is anyones guess.

Yup,
not only that but now with TWO different only NFL teams the only thing you can be certain of with Kevin Kolb is that he CANNOT handle the rigors of an entire NFL season, they guy is just to soft.
