Saints Vs 49ers Playoff Open Thread

PrintThe playoffs continue with Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints travel to California to play the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round. This game is where an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. The unstoppable force would be the Saints offense, which has been putting up points in gobs. Brees set a record in passing yards this season and threw for over 40 TDs.
The immovable object is the San Francisco defense, tops in the NFC. They are built to be able to beat the Saints. They create turnovers, the run the ball well and shorten the game and they don't make mistakes. Where they struggle is punching the ball in the endzone for touchdowns when in the red zone. It will take a near perfect game to beat New Orleans, but they will not have the raucous atmosphere of the Superdome.
While you watch the game and root against SF (that is the case for most of us, I imagine), jump in and discuss the game.

To all you "Cardinal fans" that are glad SF won,
you are not REAL Cardinal fans. Think anyone in NY would root for Philly or Washington or Dallas in the playoffs? Or a Steeler fan would root for Baltimore or Cleveland? Thats why this city will never be taken seriously as a sports town. How may Saints fans did you see at the game today? I counted less than 10, but if it was U of P stadium it would be at least 70/30. And just so you all know, I was born at St Josephs and have lived in the 602 my whole life. I just know what being a real fan is all about.

You say your dad is from Chicago. Ill assume he is a REAL Bears fan then. Ask him, honestly ask him if he would ever root for Green Bay under any circumstances. If he tells you yes he is either lying to you or is full of shit. The 9ers are our most hated rival and you choose to root for them. Do you root for U of A because they are in the same conference?

I also mentioned multiple times in this thread that I do not like SF. I never said that I was hoping to see SF win. I wanted to see Smith and Brees chucking interceptions to the DBs, and I would have been fine with whoever won.

Because who would not laugh at their ineptitude trying to tackle him on that play.
Second one was on the Saints against the entire NFC West over the last two years, and it looked like the 49ers were going to blow them out. We beat them with Max Hall, the 7-9 Seahawks beat them in the playoffs, the Rams got their first win of the season against them, and they let Alex Smith burn them though the air. The NFC Best has embarrassed them over the last two years, pointing that out.
I do hate them, and I do like their Defense. I like good Defenses, and I am sick of how so many teams in the NFL can’t cover or tackle. And i hate all of the new rules that limit what defenses can do and make things easier for the offenses.
That cat was a picture I saw somewhere else making fun of how the Saints suck in outdoor grass stadiums that made me laugh.

Didn’t really think about the 49ers offense thing much. But they suck at scoring touchdowns, David Akers is their redzone offense so it was more of just them being themselves than anything else to me.

And I’ve never bought into the concept of being “loyal to the division.” Growing up in Minnesota where division rivals are heartily despised, it is a foreign concept to me. No Vikings fan I know would be caught dead cheering for the packers just to be “loyal to the division.” I can’t stand the niners (or packers) or their fans and wish them nothing but losing and misery, thank you very much.

I'm a U of A fan too.
I do hate the 49ers, but not just because they’re in the same division. If the Seahawks, or Rams made the playoffs, I’d be glad to see them do well.
