Hue Jackson To Interview With Arizona Cardinals For Coaching Position

It was announced earlier this evening that former Oakland Raiders head coach, Hue Jackson is a candidate for the vacant quarterbacks coach spot on the Arizona Cardinals coaching staff. After things went south with former Kansas Cicty Chiefs head coach, Todd Haley, Jackson is the next guy to target. Not much information coming out now but it's been confirmed by Arizona Cardinal sources, and NFL sources that this is true.

More after the jump. (Jess Root added to the post)

Star-divide

XTRA 910 Mike Jurecki revealed Sunday night on FOX10 Sports Night that the Cardinals would interview Jackson this week.

He also said that the team interviewed two other candidates last week (no names were given) that did not get the job.

Jackson has had several offensive coaching jobs in the NFL. He was a running backs coach for the Washington Redskins, a receivers coach for the Cincinnati Bengals and quarterbacks coach for the Baltimore Ravens for Joe Flacco's first two seasons in the league.

He also has coached in the Phoenix are, as he coached running backs and quarterbacks for Arizona State in the 1990s.

Based on the success he has had in each stop, one would think that he would do good things for both Kevin Kolb and John Skelton, whoever ends up being the 2012 starting quarterback.

I like it,

and I also think Manning and Wayne would be a great FA combo to bring in.

lol

That would be NASTY! WAYNE + MANNING x FITZ= SB

As far as Hue Jackson…….. That would be a great pickup. I prefer him to Todd Haley to be honest, I was shocked when OAK fired him as he had that team playing GREAT football.

I would be shocked if he didn’t get another HC job tho.

Mike Jurecki was on TV

Talking about how the Cardinals are on the “short list” regarding Manning. I have no clue what a “short list” is though.

I hope the "short list"

Is much like the “Kolb Watch”, but if we actually in fact land Peyton Manning, but what do you do with Kolb?

If we do land Peyton Manning

We’d probably have to pay a lot of money, so in that case, I’d lean towards cutting Kolb. The only reason Kolb should stay on the team is if he’s going to be the starting QB.

I just worry it would lead to another post-Warner kind of problem

Of not having a QB to replace him. I think Skelton has the potential and sitting behind Manning for a season or two would probably do him wonders. Hopefully. It would be great to keep both QB’s but that will probably be financially impossible.

by Jesse Reynolds on Jan 23, 2012 12:46 PM MST up reply actions

that's what I've heard

Even though Manning is amongst the greatest of all time QB’s, I’ve heard he is a horrible mentor and doesn’t like to help any other up and coming QB’s. This is just what I’ve heard.

Sorry folks, park's closed. Moose out front shoulda told ya.

by Ghettoboxx on Jan 23, 2012 6:48 PM MST up reply actions

The only thing Manning would stunt,

Is Kolb’s chances of being a Cardinal, I to have also heard that Manning isn’t interested in being a mentor, but then again maybe that is just because he is and probably always will be the face of the Indianapolis Colts, that can all change in the desert.

If Manning comes to the desert I for one would not like it.

The Colts only let go of Manning with knowledge of his health and/or play declining. I don’t want that as our QB situation even if it’s 2 years because it ultimately will stunt the growth of the organization. I say this with all factors considered. If the Cards had to give up a 10 million dollar contract for 2 yrs. w/incentives then I would change my tune possibly. Ultimately i don’t see the Colts letting Manning ( a 4 time MVP) go without him being almost done. So yeah …. No I would say this isn’t happening and if it did it wouldn’t work out well for the Cards.

but hold on,

has the ever been a draft prospect that will make 10 career pro bowls, 2 MVPS, and 2 superbowl’s such as Luck. hahaha nevermind, watch Luck be no better than Tony Romo

It would be something to think about

But Manning still has 3 or 4 years left of Manning-eque performances. We just couldn’t pass up an opportunity like that.

For sure,

Hue likes a punishing run and vertical passing attack.

I like it

Hopefully he can keep his ego and his mouth in check because that is what got him fired from Oakland though.

I think he has a similar personality as Todd Hailey

Both are in your face, energetic, passionate coaches. Hue actually seems a little more even keel. I have a group of friends that are Oak fans so I was pretty informed on them throughout the season. They all liked Hue and were really mad he was fired. Along with just about everyother Raider fan I have talked to.

I meant to say

I heard nothing about his ego. Not questioning you just stating I was unfamiliar with that part of it. Can you explain?

by cgcardzfan on Jan 23, 2012 1:23 AM MST via mobile up reply actions

All of the control he wanted with the Raiders, he wanted a lot more say in all of the personnel decisions they made.

The odds have to be higher than that

Everything I have seen the Colts FO do this offseason point to moving in a new direction with a new QB. Manning will not be the backup on their team, and not for the money he will be owed. If he does make it out of that organization somehow and can still play, all reports indicate we are one of, if not THE, front-runner.

Pretty much what I said

And I really hope it happens AND he is healthy.

Probably

But if some team is bringing him in I am sure they would get the same knowledge of his health as any other team. These are big dollars to have him on your team so I am sure any team would be fully aware of where he is at physically…

by NATIVEWOOD on Jan 23, 2012 6:28 AM MST up reply actions

Id say either or

They are both good coordinators, but Haley would have to have the edge considering his familiarity with the Organization, coaches, players, schemes.

by cgcardzfan on Jan 23, 2012 3:47 AM MST via mobile up reply actions

It's another situation like Haley's with the same question

why the hell would he take a demotion from HC level to position coach? Doesn’t make any sense from a career standpoint and Jackson is too good not to get higher level offers.

by Birdman2 on Jan 23, 2012 6:27 AM MST reply actions

hue Jackson's raiders were the most

Penalized time in the league, tells me all I need to kno about him, I hope he doesn’t come here.

by tucson cards fan on Jan 23, 2012 7:06 AM MST via mobile reply actions

The Raiders are always the most penalized team in the league

That’s just how it is with the Raiders. Doesn’t mean that the same thing will happen if Hue is OC for us.

I still would take Hue over Miller.

by Zapf on Jan 23, 2012 9:36 AM MST reply actions

Again, he's not going to be OC

He is interviewing for the QB coach position.

I think he brings credibility

His firing in Oakland was really surprising. Considering they lost McFadden for most of the year and Palmer joined the team half way into the season and hardly ever had the same WR’s each game. That is a lot to overcome.
If Hue does join us he will be here only shortly, IMO.
I’m on the fence about him as a QB coach. I am not sure what he brings to that position.

by Jesse Reynolds on Jan 23, 2012 12:44 PM MST reply actions

He had Jason Campbell playing great before his injury

And I believe he worked with Carson Palmer in Cinnci. More credibility then Haley at that position.

by cgcardzfan on Jan 23, 2012 1:39 PM MST via mobile up reply actions

I'm all about Hugh Jackson,

He would thrive here and become a better HC in the future for it. Why here? Cause we go’n Super Bowl, Baby!!! That’s why Manning would come here ( but that ain’t happening).
And, we have more talent at QB than the Ravens….. me thinks :))

by JRSedona on Jan 23, 2012 1:21 PM MST reply actions

Hue Jackson's QB experience

In 1995 he was the QB coach at ASU. Jake “The Snake” Plummer was a QB on the team at the time. I believe Plummer was the starter that year.
In 1996 he was California’s OC and QB coach. Pat Barnes was his QB.
In 1997 he was USC’s OC and QB coach. Mike Van Raaphorst and John Fox played QB.
In 2000 Hue Jackson was again the QB coach (after being the RB coach from 98’ to 00’). He coached none other than Carson Palmer.
In 2008 and in 2009 he was the QB coach for the Ravens, coaching rookie QB Joe Flacco.

Get this guy a contract….

by cgcardzfan on Jan 23, 2012 4:46 PM MST via mobile up reply actions

Yeah

Plummer was a four-yr starter at ASU. 95 was his jr yr.

My parents are UCLA alma mater and I grew up in LA

I moved to Arizona and since LA didn’t have a pro football team I started rooted for the Cardinals back in like 03’. Now I am a AZ fan when it comes to the professional teams.
I still love UCLA and they have the most NCAA championships so don’t hate! haha
