2012 Senior Bowl: Melvin Ingram Looking Good In Workouts
The 2012 Senior Bowl on Saturday will feature a few players that the Arizona Cardinals might have on their radar looking ahead to the NFL Draft in April. On Monday, it was tackle Mike Adams that caught some eyes. On Tuesday, it was pass rusher Melvin Ingram.
What did Wes Bunting have to say about Ingram?
South Carolina pass rusher Melvin Ingram was also a bear to block off the edge today. He flashed natural change of direction skills on his spin move, was sudden on his inside club and even dropped his pad level down around the edge. He can reach the pass rusher in a number of ways and because of the lacking talent in this year's class; he should be a first round selection.
Ingram has been seen in mock drafts to go about where Arizona picks at number 13, all the way to the end of the first round.
It is said that you can't have too many pass rushers, and in a defensive system built around pressuring the quarterback, talent like Ingram might be hard to pass. Of course, needs in other positions and talent left when the Cardinals select might have them go another way.

It looks like there will be a lot of available talent when the Cards pick.
They seem to have the most success when the go the BPA route, so hopefully that aligns with the needs of the team.
How about the safety from Bama as another potential?
Mark Barron, we need depth behind Wilson.

He's not at the Senior Bowl
As for the safeties, the only guy I’ve picked up on has been Iloka (Boise State). He’s been up-and-down in man coverage and they’re saying he might not have the movement skills to play safety (at 225 he might make a WLB in a 4-3). I don’t think he’s done enough to confirm or refute that.
Ingram has looked good, but he hasn't looked a fit in Arizona
I mean, maybe — I think Horton could make it work. Body-type, I think he’d be a better fit in Seattle or Houston.
I think if he comes here he’s playing second-fiddle to Dockett and Campbell. He’d look great in a radar or psycho package, and maybe you put him at DE in passing situations while Dockett kicks inside (allowing the Cardinals to run a nickel with 3 D-linemen — not necessarily a need or a want) but I think an OT or a 3-down OLB would be better.
Ingram isn’t a 3-4 DE…

Dude is 6'2" 276lbs. with stumpy arms
We don’t have a comparable player on our entire defense. Where do you want to put him? As a pass-rusher he best fits at OLB, but with that kind of size, I have questions. If you take Ingram or Upshaw, can you bring them in and make them lose 10 lbs. and never take them off the field?
Another point, Ingram has looked just as good with his interior rushes this week as he has coming from outside
He’s as much a 3-4 DE as he is a 3-4 OLB, in my opinion.
Tamba Hali is about the same size and he seems to be doing just fine at OLB, so Ingram’s height and weight shouldn’t be a concern, especially considering how athletic he is. And Ingram could stand to lose a few pounds, sure, but I think he could play OLB at his size and excel at it.
