LaRod Stephens-Howling A Potential Key Part To Cardinals 2012 Running Game With Williams, Wells Recovering From Surgery - Desert Dirt - SB Nation Arizona
I know most of us think he is underutilized overall, but do you think he could, if needed, shoulder the load as an every down back?

No
He does not have the durability. He is just too small IMO. We just need to use him in more efficient ways (and use him more). Next year, with Williams, I never want to see LSH up the middle… Unless it is a very, very rare occasion to catch the defense guessing on a draw or something.

Cardinals, Suns, D-backs for life!
Over speculating...
While I was pleased to see Hyphen tear up the Seachickens, I wouldn’t say he can save us if Beanie and Ru go down. He carried the ball 21 time for 96 yards and SEA allowed an average of 19 carries for 112 yds. It was a home game, with added OT time for him to rack up more yds. I like the little guy and consider him to be a good returner/3DB, but he’s no starter. Consistency makes a NFL RB and I just don’t see him being able to carry the load for multiple games. I don’t think Whiz does either considering they brought in Taylor and Smith during Beanie’s time on the sidelines due to injury.
If needed, yes
But only if “if needed” is defined as shouldering that load for a few games while someone recovers, not filling in full time if someone goes down for good.
As the other posters have mentioned above, he just doesn’t have the size to rely on as a full-time starter over the course of an entire season. It’s nice to know you have him to fill in for that role occasionally, but relying on him in that role is a terrible risk.
I was watching the Az v Seattle game
Last night cause I was feigning for some Cardinals, and I was thinking the same thing. He looked good in the Seahawks game. He could definately handle A LOT more touches and in circumstances like injury, could be a fill in feature back. Now I wouldn’t go building your run game of the future around him. But for a season filler he could do a good job.

He could do it,
but only a couple of games at a time.

Hypen
Hypen is a beast in the role he plays and like he said “if needed” they could use him. His size makes him hard to see coming out of the back field like MJD. Which is why I think he is as affected as he is in the back field. But he’s a great running back to have behind Wells and Williams.
if he's used the proper way
Similar to the way neworleans does with sprolls,we’d be that much more dangerous he’s a homerun hitter if used the right way, as we all saw with our own eyes the dallas game, and not to mention that small quick backs who can catch outta the backfeild with his kinda speed don’t grow on trees

There were a lot of times where he seemed to fall down right away in the Seahawks game though

After his performance against Seattle I feel it show cases the lack of imagination we have thanks to our offensive coordinator. Hypen may not be durable to be a every down back, but he should be a bigger part of the offense with his talents. At times to pick up 4 or 5 yards with our play would have created less passibng downs through out the game
