Antrel clowning on the Cardinals

While driving to work this morning I heard Jim Rome mention some of the things Antrel Rolle said in an interview, and being drafted by the Cardinals came up. I cannot find the full interview, but a quote from him was “...I didn’t even know Arizona before I got drafted there, the Cardinals? I’m like, Jerry Maguire?” Rome had more of the quote and it bothered me, so if any of you can find the full quote please add it in the responses.

Someone should remind Antrel that he was a cornerback at the U and was drafted to be the same here. However, his coverage skills were so bad that the Cardinals were forced to convert him to safety and there were even talks of cutting him if he couldnt hack it as a safety. I dont know about any of you, but watching Vernon Davis run right past him for a touchdown last Sunday brought back quite a few memories from his days here. Too bad the best thing this guy is good at is talking, he probably couldnt even cover his mouth when he coughs. Give me Kerry Rhodes any day of the week.

Not many people thought any of his comments were funny

http://www.bigblueview.com/2012/1/24/2731177/antrel-rolle-press-conference-01-24-12

It comes up following questions and answers about how he was going to pick off Ben in Super Bowl XLIII, losing that Super Bowl, and where he thought about going in free agency.

I will always remember him not being able to play CB, his fumbling excuses on Cherry Blossom lotions, getting beat too many times in coverage, and his horrible sideline block on Fitzgerald that let Harrison score in the Super Bowl.

Thanks for reminding me of the block on Fitz

Those comments were harmless

He was just trying to make the point that he knew nothing about many of the franchises of the nfl.

I remember the lotion comments

That was after he tried to be the punt returner right?

Someone tell him

That he’s not as important as a veteran of war, he singlehandedly made one of the dumbest comments of all time in NFL history, and he wasn’t that good here.

I used to have respect for him, but not anymore. Oh, and guess what Antrel, a lot of celebrities and athletes retire here for the good weather. Just ask Donovan McNabb, Mohammed Ali, Kurt Warner, Randy Johnson, etc.

I wonder,

what Rolle is gonna say when he gambles and Brady burns him for 3 TD’s right over top of his head

Haha what's the big deal?

The Cardinals were a sad franchise back then, one of the 3 worst for sure. I dont blame him for thinking that way. Seriously, he’s just messing around, nbd. No need to attack him! Haha

I honestly have no idea what you're talking about...

What does being humble have to do with this?

by forget on Jan 26, 2012 12:37 PM MST via mobile up reply actions

So you really think

Rolle didn’t know who all the 32 teams in the NFL were? He is trying to get drafted and it is his dream to get in the league and you think he didn’t know all the possible destinations? I call BS on that.

Maybe...

It is not like Rolle talks highly of the Cardinals ever though so it is hard for me to assume the same.

please Antrel he seems to forget if in green bay game rodgers had connected with his wide open reciever this player would not have been wanted as a free agent.

Not totally surprising

Housler did that to us this year. Made it even worse by saying he is a Cowboys fan

Done with rolle

Give me Rhodes any day he has made many more plays. How many fumble recovers does Rhodes have since being here?

by ptwice21 on Jan 26, 2012 6:11 PM MST via mobile reply actions

Rhodes has quite a bit actually,

his INT’s aren’t too far behind Rolle’s either, only difference between the two is Rolle is a bigger gambler and without a doubt more dangerous with space to run after the INT, but I didn’t mind only seeing a handful of huge pass plays this season.

by INSOMAN1ATIC on Jan 26, 2012 9:02 PM MST reply actions

Well....Rhodes didn't play too much this season

Haha he was out while our defense transformed into a good unit.

Rolle>>>Rhodes

Btw, can we all agree that “fumble recoveries” is kind of a pointless stat? Lol

by forget on Jan 26, 2012 9:55 PM MST via mobile up reply actions

wow im actually agreeing with forget

Rolle>Rhodes

And while FR isnt a useless stat. It’s one of the least important by far, especially for a S. I’d take FF, tackle for loss, interception, pass defended, tackle, all before a good fumble recoverer haha. I honestly believe Rhodes should and will be traded this offseason.

by cgcardzfan on Jan 28, 2012 4:10 AM MST via mobile up reply actions

What do you and some others mean,

when you say our defense transformed? Nothing magically changed, I’ll tell you what did happen. Porter took the bench to Acho and Haggans lost plenty of snaps to Schofield. THAT is the only change that happened on D, I don’t buy into they didn’t know the playbook in week 7 and magically knew it like the back of their hands come week 8

So it says nothing

That our coaching staff (mainly Horton) was saying he implemented too much of the defensive scheme early on? He made things simpler and progressively opened up the book to the defense. They were making SO MANY mental errors early in the season (look at the Steve Smith TD all over SportsCenter as an example).

The plays we were notorious for (20+ yards) were severely reduced and we started forcing teams off the field in 3rd down at an astounding rate.

I agree that Acho starting instead of Porter was a big reason we improved (and also Scho playing more) but there is more to it in my opinion.

There were also comments midseason from Dockett sounding like he wasn’t buying the system and how he “was on his shit” from now on. It is partially speculation but Darnell was clearly frustrated at the defensive scheme and him not getting his numbers. Guys had to buy in as well…

Rhodes was one of the more consistently good players on the defense from what I saw
