With Kevin Kolb set to be sidelined for the next 6-8 weeks, it is time for John Skelton to show why he earned the starting job in the first place.
The loss of Kevin Kolb is going to hurt this football team. The Arizona Cardinals are reeling right now, losing their last two games to what many would consider subpar teams. For once, it was not the fault of the quarterback, either. The offensive line, missed opportunities and other things led to these defeats. Kolb was actually pretty solid.
With John Skelton stepping in, there is a lot for Cardinals fans to think about. In his relief of Kolb in the game against the Bills, he went 2/10 and threw a game deciding interception. Some may point to rust as being the main factor in this, but what if it's not? What if Skelton just really isn't ready to lead this organization?
Either way, he is the only option this team really has at this point. Ryan Lindley is still in the early stages of his career and Rich Bartel is not starter material, if and when he is re-signed. The job is Skelton's and unless he is injured, it will be his to keep until Kolb is healthy once again.
Personally, I am worried about the dawning of another Skelton era. He has not shown me that he can be consistent. Instead, the only thing he seems to be consistent about is throwing wild passes that get picked off.
We also have to wonder if his ankle is even 100% right now. His mobility seemed limited against the Bills and unless he is able to make plays from nothing a la Ben Roethlisberger or Kolb, he is going to be sacked quite a bit. We have seen Skelton do this in the past, but how about on a bum ankle?
I may be the only one that is a bit worried about Skelton reclaiming the throne, so I will ask the rest of you. What is your opinion on this new ordeal the Cardinals are being faced with? What if Skelton goes down, too? Are you nervous? Tell us what you think.
