Wow. I am so frustrated after last night. Over these last two games, the Cardinals have given up 17 sacks, and with their average of 4.6 sacks given up per game they are on pace to let the passer get slammed down to the turf 73.6 times this season. Barely missing the record set by the 02 Texans with 76. But I think we will reach it.
I knew we would be bad at pass protection with the loss of Levi Brown (He wasn't good at pass blocking, so what does that say for the guys behind him?) but I never thought it would be this bad. I at least thought these guys would be competent enough at run blocking to at least take some pressure off the QB as well but nope that hasn't happened at all. Can't get any holes opened up at all right now and I don't see that changing. Just makes you think about how amazing it is that Grimm has kept his job with how bad this line has been throughout his time coaching here. At this point, it is completely obvious that only allowing 6 sacks in the first 3 games was a complete fluke (and I was saying I thought it was a fluke even back then before Kolb got killed in the last two games).
This is so frustrating, because defensively the Cardinals are good to keep themselves in most of the games that they play. But when the QB has immediate pressure in his face on EVERY SINGLE PLAY from 3 or 4 man rushes how can you really expect to win?
At this point, I don't think it would matter if Kolb or Skelton were out there, the only difference between them would be that Skelton's passes would fly a few yards farther than Kolbs when he tries to throw the ball away as he gets crushed and slammed to the turf instantly after taking the snap by multiple unblocked rushers. I think we will wind up seeing Bartel because the three other guys are on the IR.
Now, I hope I am wrong, but this is an issue that can kill our season. So please Whiz, Grimm, and Miller, find some way to at least give a slight fix to these issues. Find a way to give some extra help to these guys in pass protection, call more quick developing plays, if the score is close at least try to keep some form of balance on offense. Please do something to help our QBs.
I can not find where to post Polls on the new SBN thingy, so I'll just ask here for now. Do you think we will break the record for sacks this year if this stuff keeps up?
