Your "star" running back is available and healthy for the first time in weeks. What do you do? Make your rookie sixth-round pick throw it 52 times. While you have a lead.
With that in mind, the following graphic should surprise no one:
The moral: five games left to play and the season's officially over. What to do? In a word, plenty. For now, let's just look over our starters and figure out where we should start giving snaps to younger players for evaluation purposes.
Midseason Lineup Changes
We're in such a deep hole at certain positions (QB comes to mind) that there just isn't much that we can do. It's not all hopeless, though, so let's use the next five games to figure out what we have in some of our young guys.
Runningback
Beanie sucks. LSH has big play ability but can't make up for terrible blocking all on his own. Then there's William Powell, who has the best yards/carry on the team, who led the NFL for rushing yards in the preseason, and who's posting a respectable 25.4 yards/kick return. More snaps for Powell!
Guard
Snyder is so bad he brings Massie and Sendlein down. Bench him immediately. It shouldn't even need to be spoken aloud, it should have been done already! Colledge, while not the problem, isn't the solution, either. Ohrnberger is a solid depth player but I believe we need to take a serious look at Kelemete and give him a few games to get an idea if we can count on him for a whole season.
Inside Linebacker
I remember Urban writing about how Lenon's reputation coming from St. Louis was that he's a solid player that fades down the stretch. Well, we're in the stretch. Lenon isn't getting any younger and he doesn't have a contract next year. Bradley looked ready to live up to expectations in the preseason. A plus B equals...
Cornerback
Am I correct that Bethel's getting snaps at CB now? What... happened here? Gay's spent the year proving that he's not starting material. Toler and Fleming haven't taken the step we needed them to... and now Bethel's playing CB? Horton is a fabulous defensive coordinator, but my God he is hopeless when it comes to the secondary. Any changes here will have to wait until the offseason.
I'd like to hear your suggested changes as well, or let me know if you disagree with mine.
