Cardinals vs. Seahawks: 5 negatives from the worst loss in franchise history

USA TODAY Sports

The Arizona Cardinals lost their ugliest game during the Ken Whisenhunt era and perhaps the history of the franchise on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.

58-0. That's pretty bad. Honestly, it takes a lot of effort on behalf of the losing team in order to lose that bad. The Cardinals had 8 turnovers in the game, tied for the most ever in a single game. It was pretty awful.

So awful that I could probably do a lot more than five negatives. But I will let you guys do that in the comments section instead. Here are my five.

John Skelton

What can I really say about Skelton? He was downright awful. It's bewildering to even think that he was actually named the starting quarterback coming out of training camp. That is a huge testament to the lack of talent the Cards have at quarterback on the roster.

Skelton went 11/22 for 74 yards, FOUR interceptions and a sack fumble before being pulled for rookie Ryan Lindley. Not much more needs to be said.

Patrick Peterson Special Teams Woes

Peterson raked in his fifth interception of the season on Sunday, but he made more mistakes than he make big plays. In fact, it was in his trying to make big plays that he struggled. He fumbled two punts away for two special teams turnovers going for the Seahawks. Both of them resulted in scores.

Lack of Desire

The Cardinals just truly never looked engaged at any point during the game. The tackling was horrible, their pursuit to the ball carrier was lazy and the team looked lackadaisical. It appears that the defense has finally followed suit with the offense and has officially given up on the season. Maybe the coaching staff has too. Regardless, changes need to be made. Better now than later.

Getting the Ball to Larry Fitzgerald

Once again, the Arizona Cardinals struggled to get the ball to their superstar playmaker. Larry Fitzgerald is easily the best player the team has, but on Sunday against the Seahawks, he had just one catch for two yards. That gives him six catches over the past four games.

A lot of the time, it was Fitz's fault, too. He dropped a couple of passes and did not make some catches that he would normally haul in. Look for him to watch the film from this game and improve upon his performance for next week.

Injuries

The Cardinals suffered a few injuries to go along with their huge loss to the Seahawks. Paris Lenon hurt his ankle in the first quarter, but was able to return. Dan Williams later hurt his hamstring and was not seen after that. Rich Ohrnberger had to be replaced at center by Scott Wedige, who saw his first action in the NFL. Ohrnberger left with a knee injury. It will be interesting to see if he plays next week.
