There has been a lot of goings on at the QB position this year; not good ones. So much so you may have missed the goings on around the league; especially with all of the new young quarterbacks. WHat's been going ? The option, that's what. Yes, the option has made it's way into the NFL. Allbeit small, it has been effective at negating pass rushers and opening running lanes. I don't see how that changes anytime soon as I think it integrates well with a pro style offense. Yes, we will be welcoming chip Kelley to the NFL next year. I digress.... We have seen the option allow these young athletic QB's like Wilson, Newton and RG3 get out of the pocket and provide ample time for their receivers to break free. We have seen it allow these QB's use their legs to pick up a few yards on 1st down or more when nothings open. We have seen allow the pocket to move keeping the Defense off balance. We have seen it open big running lanes. We have seen it take Alex Smith and bench him for Collin Kapernick. Now to my point; there is no doubt in my mind that the option is here to stay and the strictly pocket passers now will become relics. Arizona needs a QB. A mobile athletic QB. Kolb has some wheels and I think would be great at running some option plays so I'd like to see him stay but there in the 2nd round sits EJ Manuel. EJ has not got any hype whatsoever but the tpe on I have seen on him shows me that he has live feet in the pocket, a great deep ball, big, strong, athletic and besdes that he is a mature senior who completes 60+ % of his passes with a 2-1 TD to interception ratio. He doesn't come from an option system, but has all the tools to kill it in a hybrid option pro-style offense. Even better; we can get him in the 2nd round where we should be drafting a QB this year. Drafted in the right round. A round 1 QB is too high this year. Option cabable. Can run and throw out of it. Can backup Kolb Niceley year 1. Kolb can teach him the ropes and still have his chance to prove himself. This is why I think EJ Manuel is the QB of the future. Don't give us another re-tread or statue. Be forward thinking and let's look at the NFL for what it is becoming. Option QB's, Option RB's, Athletic lineman, Linebackers who can make plays in space are all things of the future. Statuesque pocket passers, 240lb. pound it up the middle type RB's and edge pass rush specialists are all a thing of the pass. Let's hope the Cardinals see this.
