Nation Wide Mock Draft
Hello Cardinals Fans,
I had an idea for a mock draft in which your sports nation site acts as your team. Over the next few months I plan to visit each team's site and allow for each reader to help pick your team's draft pick. Please answer the poll to select your team's draft pick.
Just to give you a little more on this idea and myself, I am a writer for bleacherbumsports.net and will continue to organize all of the draft information I receive through my site. The poll will be up for 3 days after which the player with the most votes is your teams draft pick. I will then move on to the next site and have them pick from which players are left. This will only be a first round draft and can not involve trades so please pick where your team currently is. I cannot verify in the proper amount of time if the other team would accept your trade.
I would really appreciate everyones help with this. Thanks in advance! - Sam
Current Draft Results:
1. Colts - QB Andrew Luck
2. Rams - WR Justin Blackmon
3. Vikings - OT Matt Kalil
4. Browns - QB Robert Griffin III
5. Buccaneers - CB Morris Claiborne
6. Redskins - OT Riley Reiff
7. Jaguars - DE Quinton Coples
8. Dolphins - DE Melvin Ingram
9. Panthers - CB Dre Kirkpatrick
10. Bills - LB Courtney Upshaw
11. Seahawks - RB Trent Richardson
12. Chiefs - OG David DeCastro
The Poll will be open until Feb 18 at 1pmThis is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Revenge of the Birds' (ROTB) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of ROTB's editors.

I'm kinda taken aback by the Martin landslide here. I know we need a tackle and I've made my feelings known on the tackle position. I just want to know how many actual Cards fans are picking Martin.

Mine as well
Best value of anyone left on the board at #13. The only other players that I considered were Mercilus and Kendall Wright.

He go my vote also
By far the best value left on the board. I like what I’ve read about his football smarts, coachablity, steady improvement and leadership. Working with Lott and Grimm he is a star in the making IMHO.
That's 4 votes and it's currently up to 54 votes so.... What gives? If you ask the question of Cards fans leave it for Cards fans to answer. I know this is shi because this isn't a reflection of what I read daily. I'm calling B.S.!

That's because most of the players being talked about have been taken.
I chose Martin, safer pick than Adams and if we are going to be competitive next year, we need better oline play. Another reason, if we have any hope of getting Peyton, we need a better line.

Not everyone who votes, comments either
From what I’ve read on ROTB the majority of people would choose Martin over Adams. Thats nothing against Adams as a prospect, but Martin is widely regarded as the higher ranked prospect than Adams

Besides, I'd much rather you call out whoever voted for Osweiler

Now that's funny!! Oh and I wasn't calling out anyone just saying I think peeps from other fan sites are padding the Martin vote.

We already have an Osweiler with two years of pro experience in Helter Skelton!

I picked Martin.
OT is far and away the biggest need. I haven’t seen Martin slide this far in any mock draft.
I think Martin will win out by a fairly large margin
I’m still very high on him as a prospect, and he has a higher floor than Adams. Adams has very good potential, but has a better chance than Adams to bust IMO. We need solidity at at least one tackle position, and I think Martin gives us the best chance to have, at the very least, a good RT. Adams may have a bit more upside, but his lower floor scares me from picking him that high.
Regarding the rest of the draft: I’m very surprised Seattle’s community chose Richardson, when they have a very solid running combo of Lynch and Forsett. Not saying that Richardson is a bad pick, but it doesn’t seem to be a position of need. Also, I’m surprised that St. Louis’s community chose Blackmon. No use having a good WR, if your QB doesn’t have time to get him the ball

yeah, i thought lynch was set there
but it seemed they wanted someone better to platoon with lynch and eventually replace lynch all together and having richardson in the spot here was to much to pass up
Yeah, it makes sense
and BPA is a much better draft strategy to go by, which Richardson certainly is in that spot. I guess I had just presumed Seattle was content with their RB situation, but adding an elite talent like Richardson is never a bad decision

I think we are content at RB
But the way the picks fell I think most people didn’t want to reach on a pass rusher. We also have upgraded our OLine the last two drafts and although there were some great ones available that didn’t seem to be the best use of the pick. Richardson was clearly the best player available but I am guessing that if Upshaw was available along with Richardson it would have most likely been Upshaw who was picked. It just didn’t really fall the way we would have liked so we went with BPA. I don’t mean to speak for everyone else but that was my thinking at least.

Blackmon makes great sense for the Rams
All his catches in college came from within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage. If the Rams are going to have an offense, it’ll be based around quick passes like that.
I just think it's a bit of a reach for Blackmon
And even if it weren’t, I’d take the franchise LT over the franchise WR every time.

If the draft actually plays out like this, Martin is the obvious choice
He’s not an elite prospect but by far the best needs based BPA and I’m sure some would argue the BPA overall.

Indeed, I would as I believe there 3 players better suited as BPA.

and those three are......drum roll please......

Mike Adams, Luke Kuechly and Zach Brown would be choices in order of preference.
"The point is, by my standards, I won fair and square."
-Bender
Agree with Adams over Martin
Just don’t think Martin will pan out against NFL caliber lineman. Not a huge fan of Zach Brown however pairing him with DWash will take our LBs speed to an elite level.
by cardinalbrown on Feb 16, 2012 2:58 PM MST up reply actions
I agree on the speed aspect but he (Brown) needs work on wrapping up when tackling. There's no debate on that facet of his game. I believe he could be a playmaker but he needs some coaching up ecspecially with the tackling.
Now I’m second guessing myself on Brown which isn’t good. I officially say trade back and grab a Perry, Floyd, Wright and Glenn.
"The point is, by my standards, I won fair and square."
-Bender
I agree on Brown but not at all about those outside of the top 5. According to these same heehaws ... experts... a lot of great players are going to be passed off as subpar which happens year in and year out.
There are a ton of damn talented players in this draft just as all years prior. Unfortunately, It’s a bit of a crap shoot. You can never truly know what motivates the individual so.. you never know what you’ll get regardless of the talent. It’s a simple truth the NFL and it’s fans have had to endure since its inception. Archie - Really? Two Heisman trophies and you put up these stats in the NFL:
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/G/GrifAr00.htm
I know I know Archie isn’t a fair example but all the same … he was extremely talented and produced jack. So don’t count out those that aren’t talked about by the experts. HeeeeeHaaaaawwwww!!

The case can be made for Adams over Martin
but it looks like scouts are split pretty evenly down the middle on which one is the better prospect so if you’re squarely on the Adams side then that’s understandable.
Kuechly – He’s squarely in the conversation but OL is such a bigger need in my mind that I’ll roll the dice on the 3rd OT prospect over the 1st ILB. Kuechly would most likely be a very nice compliment to Wash and could probably start pretty early so I wouldn’t be disapointed with this pick either.
Brown – I’ve got zero interest in him, especially this high. He looks purely like a 4-3 OLB to me. He’s not physical and doesn’t have very good instincts. Sounds to me like a guy who’s an amazing athlete but not a real great football player.
Go big or go home!! Bet big to win big!!
by Steamin' Beamin' on Feb 16, 2012 3:51 PM MST up reply actions
It was tough on Brown but his athleticism and speed just intrigue me. I could see possibly putting him 4th and raising Martin up to 3 but ... well... I'm not a Martin fan. I don't see him as a LT in the NFL.
If they don’t take Adams at T then I would want either Kuechly, Brown or a trade back. If it came down to Brown or trade back I think trade back. Pick up a 2 or 3 and grab someone like Wright, Floyd, Perry, Glenn and possibly Konz. Those players aren’t in order of preference by the way.
"The point is, by my standards, I won fair and square."
-Bender
I agree
whole heartily, Ive watched games and Martin was too easily beat, or almost gave up a sack. IMO he does have talent but at RT which shouldn’t be drafted for us at this point. He is a product of some talent and Andrew Lucks play
Adams should be drafted over him, higher ceiling and Longer arms.
Keuchly is an interesting prospect though.
Disappointed Upsahw isn’t on the board though.

I really struggled with the choices available
But went with Nick Perry, fills a need, could be BPA at OLB, made OT Martin look bad.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=vITzMyIj6FM
My knocks on him are 1.5 years as a starter. Injuries. Not an elite athlete. But for those left on the board, he appears to be BPA.
Just a guy, because I was born that way.
He has a great turn off the edge. He usually doesn't round his attack but cuts hard for a direct line to the QB which I love. I think this kid has a huge upside but he could probably be had later in the round.
"The point is, by my standards, I won fair and square."
-Bender
I agree, later than 13
At 13, I really don’t like anyone left. I was going to say trade back, which has been my mantra since before the season ended, but I think everyone is tired of me saying that by now.
The only person I would really pick at 13 would be DeCastro. Period.
Just a guy, because I was born that way.
Wow
I am not gonna lie, this video totally changed my opinion on Martin. I am obviously a huge Ohio State fan, but was leaning towards Martin over Big Mike Adams. I now either want to take a reciever at 13 or go with Adams.

Love these match ups
Perry in my opinion is the best pass rusher in this draft. Martin got beat more then you’d like but some of them were misleading. What I saw more was great defensive scheme confusing the interior line getting interior pressure and making Luck hesitant to step up. This gives increased chances for the pass rush to win. Since Martin already struggles against elite speed he did all he could to wash Perry around but since Luck couldn’t step up he washed Perry straight into his QB.
Huge fan of the Steelers. (that includes "Steelers West")
"If I could start my life over again, I would be a professional football player and you better damn well believe a Pittsburgh Steeler!"- Jack Lambert
I hope Martin pans out if the draft happened this way
I feel like he isn’t as talented as he is made out to be. Watching him on video doesn’t inspire me. I do not see the quick feet people talk about. He is at best will be a good RT but he is not LT material.
i voted martin
but i hope with everything this pick is defense, kuechly ,Whitney Mercilus , or nick perry is the real pick hopefully ingram falls he was consisent i just want this pick defense build on whats is already good
