Don't Touch The Defense (cept resign CC)

First Off Please Read This:

http://blog.azcardinals.com/2012/01/26/improved-defense-by-the-numbers/

To me this says everything. Cardinals over nine games (which is not a fluke game or two but a trend) is a top 5 defense. Someone recently said we had to get Super Mario (not the hockey player.....or plumber) in order to make our defense better. Id go the opposite we don't touch a thing, maybe a backup or two Id even go as far as to resign vets Haggans and Lenon and for one more year more so for coaching than anything. We don't need to screw with Ray Horton and let the team play next year after full OTA's and Off season of drills and experience. I think AZ not SF has the best defense in the NFC West. So my view is not to touch what we already have.

On a side note I think if we get Peyton Manning AZ cardinals go from 8-8 to Super Bowl Contender again for 5 years. In fact I would not sign Kolb and give Peyton his exact deal. Get him... PLEASE... PLEASE..... okay im done....

I think AZ not SF has the best defense in the NFC West

I am not ready to go there yet. They were historically good against the run last year….

You should probably rephrase that

The miners have the best defense in the NFL. Your statement should read AZ has the best defense in the NFL… Do you really believe that. AZ, Sea, and SF I think are gonna be the new Pit, Bal, cincy, even cle to a degree, but to compare Arizona to SF after the season they had is short sighted.

Whereas San Francisco is verging on having the best front 7 ever in the NFL, you are an up and coming team… Willis and Justin smith are the best defensive players in the NFL, along with a few others. Az has no one on that level. Add in a few more all pros and pro bowl players, a front 7 where every single person is pro bowl calibre, a secondary with 2 pro-bowlers, whitener on the fringe, and culliver an up and comer… The 9ers have been assembling this defense for years, it doesn’t happen in a day

Willis and Smith are beasts

but the Pro Bowl is nothing but a popularity contest which allows the fans to choose its participants. And there are ALOT of dumb, clueless fans out there

by Redbird Nation #1 on Feb 3, 2012 6:34 PM MST up reply actions

Dude Darnell Dockett is better then Justin Smith

And Calais Campbell is almost as good as Smith as well. We definately don’t have any LBs that could touch Willis but Daryl Washington is better then Navarro Bowman. Our Safeties blow San Frans out of the water. Adrian Wilson is a pro bowler every year and was the best Safety in the NFL this season, and Kerry Rhodes was out almost all year but is way better then goldson.

Our corners are better because we have better talent across the board. After Carlos Rogers they have NOBODY. John Skelton carved that secondary up in AZ. Peterson and Marshall are as good as Rogers and whoever the hell else is starting for san fran, but when you throw Tolerate, Jefferson, Adams into the mix we definately have the edge.

Our D is as good if not better then SanFrans at every position except LB which is the most important.

I wouldnt say AZ defense was better then SanFran

Because their LB corp made their D ridiculous. But to say AZ has nobody on Smiths or Willis level is just wrong.

I never said it happens in a day?

Not sure what you want me to rephrase…. All I said is I think the niners D is better than ours at this point.

Couple of things

1) Lenon is still under contract with AZ through 2012

2) I may be off base on this one because I am no contract guru, but I highly doubt the Cards could snag Manning for the same amount of money they gave Kolb. Will probably take a lot more than that.

I read we will have 33 million in cap room

If we get ride of Browns contract. Apparently we have some room to spend…

Right now

yes but....

kolb is 17 to 20 of that number. if we take Manning we will not keep Kolb. It is welcome that Lenon is signed through next year I think that is perfect.

If that's true

The Cardinals would be better if they resign Cambell and then go after a Carl Nicks or Ben Grubbs and grab a Jared Gaither, Demetrius Bell, or Anthony Collins to fill one of the tackle spots.

Huge fan of the Steelers. (that includes "Steelers West")

Money for Manning

I don’t think that Manning is looking purely for contract. He is looking for team that is one QB away from a Superbowl and I think that leaves two teams. Jets and Cardinals. Now I think we have the inside edge for two reasons:

1) We play in a dome and have beautiful weather
2) We have the best WR in the NFL
3) (to a lesser extent) our coaches have done this before with Warner.

If we offer anywhere close to the jets (id say even as much as 5 or 10 million under what they offered) he would come here.

I would not sign Kolb and give Peyton his exact deal.

What does that even mean? Kolb is already signed.

If we dont give him 7 million bonus

he becomes a FA and its like we didn’t sign him. Though I mis-spoke so thank you for that.

See: New England Patriots

They only have 7 players on the current team that where part of the 18-1 team. Always reload and get young

Lets not forget

That teams are gonna have a lot of tape to look at after this season. Ray Horton was using a modified Steelers D that nobody had ever seen until this year. I expect teams will figure out the D this offseason and be able to better gameplan against it.

It couldn’t hurt to add more talent

by cgcardzfan on Feb 3, 2012 7:05 PM MST via mobile reply actions

It wouldn't hurt

But horton didn’t use his full scheme last year cause it took to much time to figure out. There’s alot more to his defense that we didn’t see.

by ptwice21 on Feb 3, 2012 8:42 PM MST via mobile up reply actions

There is no arguement

I was just pointing out that teams had never seen a Ray Horton Defense, so most were not prepared. Now teams will have a bigger sample size and be better able to game plan against it. Doesn’t mean our D won’t be as good, just that teams will be better prepared and will know what to look for and expect.

by cgcardzfan on Feb 4, 2012 1:52 AM MST via mobile up reply actions

I agree

What this defense did with acho, schofield and Washington plus are front 3 and crater and not to mention toler coming back next year and our two safeties. We are a beast for a defense. The last nine games we were the top 5. Give us a full off season and Horton the time to teach the full defense I have no problem saying we will be one of the best defenses next year. The cards are a young smart defense with great vets to help out the younger players. Not to mention Peterson, you give him two years and I bet he will become the next sanders at DB. The kid as the drive to be the best.
