Hey there Cards fans,
I have a question for you: Why are YOU a Cardinals fan?
Let me begin by saying that I am by no means a Cardinals hater. I am not here to bash you. In fact, I am not a fan of any NFL team. I have yet to gain a genuine emotional attachment with any of the 32 teams that exist in the NFL. So, I have nothing against the Cardinals. I'm just curious as to why the members of this community cheer for the Cardinals.
Understandably, many of you will be fans because the Cardinals happen you be your hometown team. You may live in the city, state, or region, and as such they have been what you've always known. However, I'm sure there are plenty others who don't know the first thing about Arizona, but choose to cheer for the Cardinals.
I could have asked my question to any of the communities of the other NFL teams, but I happened to choose this forum. In the coming days, Broncos "fans" will pop up left, right, and center, thanks to the Peyton Manning signing. The Cardinals went after Manning, and missed, and I trust that you fans that are on this site and will read this are truly loyal fans.
From an outsider's perspective, the Cards are an unfortunate team. Outside of their Super Bowl-run season a few years back, I can't think of any good-let alone great-Cardinals seasons. Yet, I can't help but think that this team has some serious fans. What keeps drawing you guys and girls in after each and every down season?
Maybe it's my inability to cope with pain and defeat that has prevented me from finding a true love in the NFL. I don't understand how some can seemingly deal with this agony for years and years. Or, maybe I just have commitment issues. Nonetheless, I am impressed that some fans, such as you, remain loyal even when your teams do not consistently find success.
If you take offense to this post, I'm sorry. I don't mean to insult Cards fans by any measure. I just want to know why you all are fans and how you all do it. In short, what keeps you coming back and supporting your team?
