Why is New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Giants, Baltimore Ravens good every year? Is it because they spend a max cap every single year? Football isn't like Baseball and New York Yankees that you can buy your way into the postseason. In fact usally its the opposite, Washington and Dallas 2 of the worst on overspending haven't won a Superbowl in 20 years.
Every April their is an NFL Draft held that you draft players from college teams that are eligible. The reason that the teams that are good every single year is because they are the best drafters of all the NFL teams. History has shown us that you draft dynasties not buy them. SF drafted Montana and Rice (3 super bowls), Dallas drafted akman, irving, and smith (2 super bowls), Pittsburgh didn't even have free agency in the 70's (4 super bowls), and oh yea they drafted Ben and their entire O-line (2 more super bowls).
So the Draft. Their are hits and their are misses in every single draft. Buster Davis anyone? (non cardinal fans he was a 3rd round draft pick that didn't even get out of his first camp.) Wiz's choice. but Steve Breaston 5th round pick, Sam acho 4th round pick. John Skelton 5th round pick, David Carter 6th round pick (i think), im sure i am missing someone
Wiz has hit on more than he has missed. Even his misses like Brown he learned from and moved on. and that has paid dividends. So that is how you build a football team you draft them. And here is the kicker the people who want to be over paid (dansby, rolle) need to go and we will replace them (Washington, Rhodes). (yes technically Rhodes was a trade, but we traded a 4th round pick for him so im gonna chalk that up to draft lol).
Free agency is to fill holes like I don't know depth on the line (Snyder) or a Solid pickup to teach newer incoming position players (Heap last year). Hell even Kolb was a trade the last time a QB the caliber of Peyton Manning hit the open market his name was Joe Montana.
on the side note.... INDY IS THE LUCKIEST BUNCH OF PEOPLE EVER THEY GET TO GO FROM PEYTON MANNING TO ANDREW LUCK and all it took was one year of suckage.
