4-14-12: Arizona Cardinals Bird Droppings - Waiting For Offseason Workouts

Time for some links. Pretty much the same stuff it has been for the last couple of days since the Cards don't want to do much in Free Agency this year.

Arizona Cardinals News:

Arizona Cardinals set to open off-season training program with new rules
Most NFL teams, including the Cardinals, open their off-season training program on Monday. All will be operating under rules established in the new CBA. The nine-week program is comprised of three stages, and as you can see, coaches are limited in how much they can do with the players. Oh, and the overall program is voluntary.

Flight Plan: Graves and Keim Talk Draft Prep
GM Rod Graves and Director of Player Personnel Steve Keim sit down with Ron Wolfley to talk about the process of evaluating talent and setting the Cardinals board for the NFL Draft.

Arizona Sports News:

Phoenix Suns defeat Houston Rockets to gain ground
In a game they absolutely, undeniably, desperately had to have, the Suns managed to lead for 17 seconds of the first half. Then they turned absolute in their resolve, undeniable on offense and desperate on defense to resuscitate their playoff hopes with a 112-105 victory Friday night against Houston at Toyota Center.

Arizona Diamondbacks miscues costly in sloppy defeat to Colorado Rockies
Even if the Diamondbacks had come away with a victory Friday night, there would have been some corners of the visitors clubhouse at Coors Field that would have preferred to have had certain parts of the evening -- if not the entire thing -- erased from the record books. Their 7-6 loss to the Colorado Rockies was the kind of game that speeds up the aging process for manager Kirk Gibson. That is, assuming his head didn't explode just after watching it. His starting pitcher was a wreck, his defense faltered, his lineup failed in key situations, and the go-ahead run was helped along by, of all things, a botched attempt to control the running game. The Diamondbacks are used to making the comebacks, but on this night it was the Rockies who rallied from a 6-2 deficit.

Phoenix Coyotes right wing Radim Vrbata's injury another hurdle
Overcoming obstacles both on and off the ice has been a trademark of Dave Tippett's teams in his three seasons with the Coyotes. Now, heading into tonight's second game of their playoff series against the Chicago Blackhawks, the Coyotes could face yet another stumbling block. Right wing Radim Vrbata, the team's leading goal scorer, played only one shift in the 3-2 overtime win in Game 1 before crashing into the boards after a hit by Andrew Shaw. He is listed as day to day with an upper-body injury.

With less than two weeks to go until the NFL Draft, players from all over the country are spending time talking with NFL coaches and working out for them. After all, teams want to get an up-close look at a player they may soon be paying millions to play for them. One guy who no one seems interested in, though, is Arizona State's Vontaze Burfict.

Bank on it: 49ers heading south in 2012 - NFC West Blog - ESPN
The San Francisco 49ers are coming off a 13-3 season. They have re-signed key players, added a few new ones, and set themselves up for another successful season. Doesn't matter. They're going down in 2012. Recent history tells us so, anyway.

Schedule strength and a 49ers follow-up - NFC West Blog - ESPN
The chart, from ESPN Stats & Information, shows where teams rank in 2012 schedule strength based on 2011 records. The 49ers' success last season partly explains why Arizona, Seattle and St. Louis rank among the top 11 in strength of schedule using 2011 records. The 49ers rank tied for 24th; they obviously cannot play themselves.

VIDEO: Rob Gronkowski Wants To Take Tim Tebow's Virginity, Is A Massive Bro - From Our Editors - SBNation.com
There was recently a heated discussion about certain athletes and where they land on the douche/bro spectrum. New England Patriots tight end and club-shirtlessness enthusiast Rob Gronkowski was someone whose name was brought up in that conversation. The final ruling was that Gronk landed on the side of "bro." In case there were lingering doubts, we now have videographic proof of him flaunting his bro-ness in bro-tacular fashion.

Ed Hochuli gives advice on how to admit a mistake | ProFootballTalk
In 2008, Ed Hochuli cost the Chargers a game against the Broncos by wrongly ruling that Denver quarterback Jay Cutler had thrown an incompletion, when he had actually fumbled. Afterward Hochuli apologized and admitted he had botched the call. The apology wasn’t much consolation to the Chargers or their fans, but it apparently impressed the folks at Bloomberg Businessweek, who have turned to Hochuli for the annual "how to" issue, proclaiming him the expert who knows how to admit a mistake.
