Arizona Cardinals Bring In Local Sun Devils For A Shot At The NFL

If you watched the draft, then you know that the Denver Broncos have basically become the Denver Sun Devils after drafting both quarterback Brock Osweiler and cornerback Omar Bolden. After that, they signed receiver Gerell Robinson as an undrafted free agent.

Not to be outdone, the Cardinals are actually bringing in two former Arizona State players themselves. Find out who they are and a little bit about how they could contribute to the team after the jump.

First, Colin Parker, a former starting linebacker for the Sun Devils, was signed to an undrafted free agent deal. Parker was part of a trio of linebackers for the Devils that included Shelly Lyons and Vontaze Burfict. Parker led the ASU defense in tackles as an outside linebacker, racking up 75 with 2.5 sacks and an interception last season.

On the Cardinals, Parker would have to adjust a bit to the 3-4 scheme, but if he were to make the team (which, for undrafted free agents, is always a long shot), he could provide depth behind Sam Acho and O'Brien Schofield. He has questionable size at 6'1" and 228 pounds and decent speed. At the ASU pro day, Parker ran a 4.70 40-yard dash. He will need to work on his ability to get to the opposing quarterback, but he does have some potential.

The other player that has the possibility of making the Cardinals squad is Eddie Elder, a safety from ASU who received an invite to the Cards' rookie mini-camp. Elder formerly played strong safety for the Sun Devils and played rather well at the position. He may not have the size to be a starting strong safety in the NFL, though, which definitely hurt his ability to get drafted, let alone receive an undrafted free agent deal.

Although he is not a big player, Elder makes up for that with decent speed and a good nose for the ball. He is a smart football player, so that will always get some looks from NFL scouts. If he receives a training camp invite, Elder would be vying for a role behind Adrian Wilson, James Sanders and even Rashad Johnson. He is a longshot to make the team, especially after the Cardinals took Justin Bethel out of Presbyterian to play safety. If he does get an invite, the Cardinals are looking at a guy that can play anywhere in the secondary and rarely makes dumb mistakes.

So, to my Sun Devil/Cardinals fans, what do you think of these two players joining the team? Do either of them have a chance to make it to the 53 man roster or the practice squad once the regular season begins? Tell us what you think.
