Another Long Boring Post, This Time About Formations To Cardinal Personnel Strengths

I have started making Basic Formations that could help our tackles in Pass Protection If We keep with the status quo on linemen. Now I know we will draft linemen but will they be able to beat out what we currently have being rookies I think only two of the linemen in the draft will be able to do that Kalil and DeCastro. If We don't get one of them then we have to be creative but there are ways to help.

After the Jump:

1) 2 TE 1 Back Pro Set.: I like this set the most because It still plays to our strengths but offers max protect if the blitz is on. Heap and Housier are good pass catching TE, Williams is the back so we can run power or catch a ball out of the backfield. Basic defense says that one backer will always (usally) come up and Stuff one TE on the line to disrupt the route then either go after the QB if zone is called or stick with the man if man is called. If zone is called Williams first read is pick up the back if he is coming, second is inside out (which should be okay because Sendline has no one to block unless backers are coming), then out to the flats for a safety for the QB. This set lets us run almost anything we want while keeping running a real threat, I have pictures but of corse I have no clue how to post the damn thing.

2) 2 TE 2 Back Power Eye Formation: If people are so worried about Fitz then lets use that. Put Fitz out wide and if they want to double cover him that leaves only 9 people to stop the run. If not then we have single coverage. You still have two TE that can run the seams and great screen possibilities. Also a full complement of pulling guard plays to put extra blockers at the point of attack. Team that with our fullback that is a cannon ball when run blocking it wont be a sexy offence but it will keep the chains moving with the occasional just throw it up to fitz play because he is in single coverage because of play action.

3) Twins (2 recievers) to both sides, One Back Off set to one side, shotgun : Going completely different way here. spread everyone out. Heap lined up in the slot a lot with Baltimore. Line him up to Fitz throw a quick pass let him block for you. you can let Fitz run deep and throw a quick out to Heap easy 5 - 10 yard gain. Still have screen T/G block 4 rushers center runs out to block WR all block, (think LSH last play vs Dallas I think they were in this set). You still have a draw or quick hitter trap play if all you need is a couple. Its easy blocking for a draw for tackles they just shove the rushers geared up to get the QB past them and block at the next level (LB). I perfer the 2TE sets but this will do as well.

As You can see we can do some things to help the linemen in any situation me personally with the TE's we got King the good blocker, Heap the great hands (just stay healthy), Housier good pass catcher, ok blocker, I would run primarily a 2 TE set as much as possible. Worked for the Patriots all the way to the Super Bowl.
