Most people out here in Cardinal land feel we need to go OL or OLB in the first round of the draft. I like the 13th pick because we can either go talent or need. Depending on who is left on the board, I think Stephen Hill out of Ga Tech should be drafted by the Cards.
At 6-5 215 pounds Hill could be the next best thing for the Desert. He ran a 4.36 at the 2012 scouting combine. The lowest time he clocked was a 4.28. With that type of speed any defense the Cards see this year will have to respect that. He stands at about 6'4 and weighs in at 215 pounds. Has great size and 40 inch vertical. He posted the furthest distance in the broad jump (meaning he has great explosiveness) out of all WR in this years combine.
Because he played at Ga Tech which is a run first second and third offense, some may be concerned about his route running, although had hat 28 catches for 823 yards that's a whopping 29 yards per catch.. Well we have a guy Hill can room with during training camp and OTA's and is the best WR in the game, hands down. The upside is run blocking is second nature for Stephen, so he can help set the edge for a run game that is on the verge of busting out. While he is on the field teams will be forced to either play one on one or remove an extra defender from the box allowing Beanie and Ryan Williams (who will be a beast) do work. Having Hill will make play action real nice for us. And his down field speed will allow Rob Housler to be really involved in the offense. All tight ends benefit from having a deep threat, ask Jimmy Ghram and Antonio Gates.
I feel this is a great pick and if still available we should go all in. Yes there is talent in the draft and Hill is one of many so lets stretch the field in this years draft.
Do you believe the Cards need a deep threat?
