I was just looking at ESPN and saw that Leinart has signed with the Raiders to back up Carson Palmer and help mentor Terrelle Pryor. Looking at Matt's career in the NFL is incredible. He and Vince Young were the Andrew Luck and RGIII (in that they were the top two QBs in their draft) from that draft class who were both "can't miss prospects". Looking at Vince Young signing to back up Bills QB Fitzpatrick, and Leinart backing up former USC teammate Palmer just shows the business of the NFL and how quickly you can fall if you don't capitalize on your moments in the spotlight.
Looking at Leinart during his time at the Texans, I thought he'd found the offensive style and team he would need to finally resurrect his name. But due to injury he's now going to be another career backup with the term "draft bust" tossed around from time to time.
Like the article was mentioning, I think signing with Oakland is his last shot to prove himself, he has a connection with the Oakland OC due to playing for him last year. He will work with Palmer, an accomplished NFL QB, and the Raiders are true to a fault. If Palmer has to sit for any reason, it will immediately become Leinart's team. Pryor is too green to be of any competition to Leinart's frail ego, so he won't be looking over his shoulder.
2012 is perform or "bust" for our former first round pick.
