To go along with Broderick Binns and Stanley Arukwe (two guys that Jess introduced yesterday) the Cardinals have also signed LaRon Byrd, an undrafted free agent wide receiver out of Miami. Byrd is a big receiver, standing in a 6'4" and 220 pounds. With that kind of size, he could potentially match up well against the bigger cornerbacks that are entering the NFC West.
After the jump, read some more about Byrd.
Here is some good info on Byrd from the press release from the Cardinals:
Byrd played in all 12 games as a senior (two starts) and finished the season with 11 catches for 125 yards and a touchdown. A four-year player for the Hurricanes, Byrd appeared in 51 games with 16 starts and finished his collegiate career with 106 receptions for 1,254 yards (11.8 yard avg.) and seven touchdowns. He started six games as a junior and had a career-high 41 receptions after starting eight games as a sophomore when he set a career high with 460 receiving yards.
At the University of Miami pro day, he ran a 4.45 second 40-yard dash, but he only did 15 reps on the bench. Although that seems like a good 40 time, especially for an athlete of his size, many believe he will struggle to get separation from defenders in the NFL.
One other quick thing to note about Byrd is that he may also get to catch passes from his former QB at the U. Jacory Harris will attend the rookie mini-camp for the Cardinals, so if he makes it to training camp, Byrd will gain that added extra sense of familiarity.
