This has probably already been discussed, but I'm curious to know what everyone's thoughts are if Skelton had started the season and Kolb came in to finish. I can't help but think that throwing Kolb to the wolves last year was a mistake. Skelton had the familiarity with the offense and was the starter at the end of the year (kind of). Kolb had zero exposure to the offense, was coming in to a completly new system, and no time to learn it. What if Whiz had flipped it and had given Kolb till the bye week to get started?
If Skelton had started the season with a defense that was still trying to find its groove, would he still have been able to pull off his 4th Q heroic's? Or, would he have dug himself too big of a hole in games like Washington, Seattle, Giants, and Baltimore. These were all winnable games that we could've won had we had more consistent play from the defense or a heroic QB with a knack of 4th Q comebacks.
On the flip side, what about Kolb? Assuming that Skelton falls victim to the same record as Kolb due to the defense not being quite ready, we would've all been screaming for our high priced QB to come on to the field at the break in week 6. How does this play out with hind sight being 20/20.
Here's a list of the remaining oppoents after the bye and the result:
Pittsburgh L 20-32
Baltimore L 27-30
St Louis W 19-13
Philly W 21-17
San Fran L 7-23
St Louis W 23-20
Dallas W 19-13
San Fran W 21-19
Cleveland W 20-17
Cincinnati L 16-23
Seattle W 23-20
Keep in mind one more win and there was a shot at getting a wild card spot in the play off's. What's the probability that we could've swept San Fran - and stole the playoff berth from them? I don't think we beat Pitt coming out off the bye week, but Baltimore looks winnable now and so does Cincinnati.
What are your thoughts?
