I was sadened to see a Cardinal player taking such a cheap shot at an opposing QB after the play when the victim was totally defenseless and without the ball. This could not only have caused a carrer ending injury but also could have been fatal. I hope Ricky Lumpkin is tossed from the roster and from the NFL.
Coach Whisenhunt was complicite in not reprimanding Lumpkin by calling his actions an unfortunate mistake. If this play is not reviewed by the NFL and hard action taken against both Lumpkin and Whiz, no player is safe. There is no love lost between Leinart and Whiz, that is for sure, but this play smells of sour grapes of wrath from the coach. I suspect there was a bounty on Matt Leinart and Lumpkin will reap the reward by making the team.
I have been openly critical of Whiz in the past, but backed off when his players fought back from a 1-6 record to end the season at .500. I said that he deserved a one year extention on his contract to show if he could actually be a good head coach in the NFL. After his handling of the assualt on Matt Leinart by his player I remove my support of Whisenhunt as an NFL coach in any capacity. Not only was the play criminal but Whiz is and was responsible. I give the head coach props when his players perform well, it is only fair to hold him responsible when the system he has in place allows a player to intentionally try to injure an unprotected and defenseless player after the whistle. This opens the door for other teams to take cheap shots at Cardinals QBs. What comes around goes around.
Find another occupation Whiz. Sports should be about fair play, not to exact revenge on former players. We will see what comes of this. I suspect nothing, other than losing my little bit of support for him. I will return to being highly critical of his coaching decisions and am happy I chose to leave the Cardinals cheering section. That does not mean I do not have empathy for Arizona Cardinals Fans. I want my neighbors to have something to cheer about but not with Whiz at the helm. I have lost all respect for him as a man. The least he could have done was condemn the act and the player but he chose not to. Whiz is a wuss!
