John Skelton, I think anyways, was the only choice that Ken Wizenhunt had to start at QB this year. He is bigger, can overcome a deficient pass blocking line by standing tall and delivering a ball, and can take a hit. He has shown that he is learning the game as quickly as he can not being in a huge football program against better competition has made his first and second year a real learning experience.
Skeltons first year as a starter he posted a 24.5 Quarterback Rating (scale of 0 to 100 remember), he was a rookie thrown into it and did okay giving the situation. His second year (no OTA's mind you) he improved to a 35.1 Qb rating winning 6 games. A solid 11 point improvement from one year to the other.
The learning curve is still there but I think if we get another 11 to 15 points better this year we are looking a QB rating around 50... Still not elite but higher than say, Alex Smith (SF), Kyle Orton (KC/Den), Mark Sanchez (NY), Andy Dalton (Cin). I dont know about you but two of those QB's played on Playoff teams.
Some people are so down on Skelton being picked but I am excited to see what the kid can finally do with the support of the staff and everyone in the locker room behind him. Because I dont know about you but if a team can go 12-4 with friggen Alex Smith at QB last year then we definately can win with John Skelton.
A nice improvement from John skelton is all im asking for, much like he has done his first two years in the league.
NOW WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED TO THE ABILITY TO MAKE A POLL???? I MISS THAT.
