Taking a quick gander at the pre-final 53 you can find some holes. We only have three outside linebackers! That has got to change. It also seems unlikely that we'll keep 11 players in the secondary.
On the offensive side of the ball, while it's great that Nate Potter survived the big wave of cuts how likely are we to keep him on the roster all season? Seems like a ploy to try and sneak him through to the practice squad a day or two later in my opinion. I'm not convinced we'll keep 9 offensive linemen, and if they do, I'm not convinced it'll be the 9 that we currently have. Another question would be whether or not they are comfortable keeping 5 WR's. Even if 5 is the final number, there will be a player or two on the practice squad and none of our final 3 cuts (Williams, Williams or Sampson) are eligible. Expect a new name there.
With those things in mind, I took a glance at the semi-final cutdowns around the league and picked out a few names I recognize that could be a fit. Look over the list and be sure to add your own.
Offense
Guards
Brandon Washington, R - Hyped as one of the best pulling guards in the class; a nimble, developmental prospect.
Jeremiah Warren, R - Massive, unrefined mauler. I know we're full at OG, but these are two great prospects that would do well here.
Tackles
I didn't pick out any experienced players but I recognize three interesting prospects from the draft. Would they be upgrades...?
Matt McCants, R - Ideal size, a developmental sixth-round pick from the Giants.
Tom Compton, R - Another great size prospect.
Jeff Adams, R - Same deal here. Would love to add one of these guys to the practice squad.
Wide Receivers
Danny Coale, R - Dallas is hoping to hide the speedy Coale on their practice squad.Kris Durham, 1 - Size and speed to replace Stephen Williams in our hearts, with three games under his belt. Could be a nice steal from Seattle.
Derek Carrier, R - Another big man who defies the laws of physics when he runs, Carrier projects better as a WR than a TE.
Diondre Borel & Tori Gurley, 1 - Seem like solid players that Green Bay just doesn't have room for.
Dale Moss, R - Converted from basketball his senior year to put up over 1,000 receiving yards.
Gerell Robinson, R - Some of you will recognize this name from his college days; the rest should remember him burning Michael Adams last week.
Defense
Nose Tackles
Hebron Fangupo, R - Big and strong with limited movement skills, a prototypical NT.
Chigbo Anunoby, R - Same deal. It'd be nice to have a real NT other than Dan Williams, wouldn't it?
Dominique Hamilton, R - Bit of a 'tweener NT/DE in the 3-4.
Outside Linebacker
Ricky Elmore, 1 - Bounced around last year. Great production in college but lacks athletecism.
Cam Johnson, R - One of the surprise falls in the draft, went undrafted to San Fran. The only real question is whether he wants it or not.
Adrian Hamilton, R - Broke records for sacks in college (20+).
Sammy Brown, R - A straight-line athlete that lived in the backfield during his two years at Houston as a 3-4 OLB.
Cordarro Law, R - A steady, reserve-type prospect.
Kaelin Burnett, R - Perfect size and speed combination but lacks experience and needs to bulk up a little.
Those are some of the guys I'm high on that could fit in here, be they practice squad candidates or perhaps late additions to the 53. There's no question we have some roster shake-up still to come. Who jumped out at you?
