The Arizona Cardinals won their first road game of the 2012 season in New England, but not without last minute drama. That drama will probably make this weeks poll to identify the bonehead play the easiest decision our community has had to make. With the Cardinals in possession of the football in the 4th quarter leading 20-18 the Cardinals turned to the run game to close out the victory. The bonehead play follows after the jump.

Ryan Williams was working hard to earn first downs and run out the clock at the end of the game. His back to back runs of 5 and 13 yards forced New England to use their 2nd timeout. The next two runs from first down were for a loss and a one yard gain after being stuffed by Vince Wilfork. The Patriots final timeout is taken with 1:10 showing on the clock. The Cardinals have a 3rd and 13 situation and will have to gain a first down or face punting the back to the Patriots with close to 30 seconds left on the clock.

That is where the bonehead play takes place. A toss play is called, Williams tries to run it to the left end but Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes puts a clean hit on Williams with his helmet square on the football causing Williams to fumble in the final minute and a few seconds of regulation play. Vince Wilfork recovers the ball and suddenly the Patriots have a short field to work with to either win with a touchdown or simply a chip shot from Gostowski to win the game.

The final minute is heart pounder for any Cardinals fan, and luckily Patriots kicker Gostowski misses the game winning kick attempt wide left. Williams is saved some embarrassment and is sure to have extra two-hand drills this week in practice.
