With the cuts made and players now having come through the waivers unclaimed, teams are beginning to put together their eight man practice squads. For the Cardinals, they will look both at guys that played well for them during the preseason as well as players that were cut by other teams.
The process for the team has already begun as they have added three players to the specialized unit.
Ricky Lumpkin, a defensive tackle that has been with the team for a couple of seasons now will make his way to the practice squad. Lumpkin has become best known for the massive hit he landed on Matt Leinart during the preseason game against the Raiders. Lumpkin has played well as a DT, so this should be a nice addition for the team.
Unfortunately, Lumpkin is the only player with Cardinals roots to be added so far. The other two players involved are a former Arizona Wildcat and a hulking offensive tackle. Ricky Elmore, an outside linebacker with some pass rushing capabilities, did not make the rosters of the Packers or the Chargers, so Arizona will now give him a shot. At U of A, he had 25.5 sacks over three seasons, so he does have a knack for getting to the quarterback.
Then, the team added Steven Baker, a 6-8 310 pound player from East Carolina. The team does not really have a ton of depth at the offensive tackle position, so Baker can come in and not only develop, but be activated to the main roster if there is ever a need for him due to injury.
More additions will definitely be coming down the pipeline soon, so be sure to keep up with this Story Stream from SB Nation Arizona.
