We move on to our picks against the spread for the Sunday late games. Sunday afternoon features some very good matchups. Four 2-0 teams square off against one another. Almost every game is a "big game," even though it is only Week 3.
The experts in Vegas have set the line. What do we say about the picks?
Philadelphia Eagles (-3.5) at Arizona Cardinals: If there is one thing you can count on from the Arizona Cardinals, it is a game that comes down to the wire. Their offense is not yet proven to be good, but the defense is incredible thus far. The result? Close game after close game. Philly is given the edge, but it is hard to go against Arizona as home underdogs because of the close games and the fact they play so well at home. Pick: Cards, +3.5.
Atlanta Falcons at San Diego Chargers (-3): The other game with two 2-0 teams battling one another is a good one. San Diego is 2-0 for the first time in eons. Atlanta looks like a team that could win it all. This is normally a game to steer clear of for betting purposes, but I expect the home team to be victorious. Pick: Chargers, -3.
Houston Texans (-3) at Denver Broncos: Peyton Manning wants to recover from his awful showing to start the game in Atlanta. However, Houston's defense is staggeringly good. Plus, they will run the ball down your throat. This is the Texans' first real test in the young season, so expect them to be ready. Pick: Texans, -3.
Pittsburgh Steelers (-4.5) at Oakland Raiders: At a glance, the pick is easy. Oakland has been embarrassing. They gave up over 150 yards on the ground to Reggie Bush. However, they are playing at home and the Steelers will be without their two most important defenders -- Troy Polamalu and James Harrison. They may not win, but they will keep it close. Pick: Raiders, +4.5.
New England Patriots at Baltimore Ravens (-3): This is a game to definitely not bet on. It get the feeling that this will be a blowout, but who will be the victor is hard to predict. Tom Brady has to be livid still after losing his home opener to the Cardinals. You can expect a big bounce back game. But the ravens are coming off a loss as well. Baltimore's defense is still great. New England just might be able to contain Ray Rice. But Joe Flacco is coming into his own. I all honesty, do not bet this game, but I'm going with the home team. Pick: Ravens, -3.
