The Arizona Cardinals made a host of moves on Tuesday, including bringing back running back Alfonso Smith. What does this mean for Beanie Wells?
On Tuesday, the Arizona Cardinals announced that they have made a plethora of moves to help change their roster around. With the uncertainty of the health of many of the players, many of the moves were made for precautionary reasons.
First, Alfonso Smith, who was cut after the preseason in favor of William Powell, tweeted this out on Tuesday night:
#Birdgang still in me!
— Alfonso Smith (@FonzoAZ46) September 26, 2012
Smith also noted that instead of his former number (46), he will be wearing number 29 for his return. The addition of Smith brings to question the health of Beanie Wells. Wells sat out the final quarter of Sunday's game against the Eagles due to a reported toe injury. The injury may force him to the sidelines longer than expected, which is why the Cardinals signed Smith again.
Aside from Smith, the Cardinals released practice squad member, Ricky Elmore and 53-man roster tackle, Pat McQuistan, according to Darren Urban. In return, Arizona signed fullback Korey Hall and re-signed Zack Nash to the practice squad. Nash spent the offseason and preseason with the Cardinals as a pass rushing defensive end/linebacker.
The addition of Hall is the one fans should be weary of. One has to question the status of Anthony Sherman. As Urban noted in his column, Rich Ohrnberger ended up playing a few snaps at fullback last Sunday in replacement of Sherman. More news is sure to come out later as to his status.
