Quarterback Rich Bartel is now a free agent. He was placed on injured reserve for the shoulder injury he suffered in the team's final preseason game. Bartel was released after that with an injury settlement and tweeted his satisfaction for being released, as opposed to sitting on injured reserve all year and not being able to practice.
Unfortunately for him, he could not make the team with rookie Ryan Lindley being a guy the team wants to develop.
In a tweet that has apparently since been deleted, Darren Urban mentioned something to the effect that Bartel was not able to impress the Cardinals coaching staff enough, much less the teams around the league, insinuating that his finding a job will be tough.
Bartel quipped back Monday morning.
Darren Urban, great dude, but don't mistake lack of opportunity for lack of ability. My resume isn't black & white, more than meets the eye.
— Richard Bartel (@RichBartel) September 3, 2012
We know this to some degree because of the reports that the coaching staff absolutely adores Bartel's work in meetings.
My guess? Should any injury happen to a quarterback on the team, Bartel will be the guy the team calls first.
