With so much promise and roster filled with real NFL players, many brought in by Dennis Green, Ken Whisenhut (with the help of Todd Haley and Clancy Pendergast as assistant coaches) brought a truly talented team together for a Super Bowl run. It did not hurt having a veteran QB Kurt Warner, whose talent included the ability to mask a poor offensive line (we continue to thank you for that Mr. Russ Grimm) and run a truly vertical threat offense.
Kurt Warner's ability and quick thinking plus his CFL/NFL experience helped catapult the Cardinal's passing offense to a Super Bowl Berth. The Cardinals were ranked 2nd in passing during the NFL's 2008 season! Whereas that vaunted Whisenhut / Grimm ground game in 2008 (the same Super Bowl year) was last in the NFL! How does the quality of an offensive line drop off so much on the run versus the pass. Could it be the inability of a coaching staff (can you say Russ Grimm or his "HC" ... Mr. Whisenhut)to "coach" those players?
As a season seat holder under contract, having to watch this staff (and management) cut the only QB (Matt Leinart in 2010) who knew and ran the system in place only days before the season started, and sign three (3) unproven QB's (one is now the starter through attrition it seems) the writing was on the wall.
This Arizona coaching staff might have been great assistants to more qualified Head Coaches (can you say Bill Cowher) yet as a Head Coach Whisenhut he leaves something to be desired. Yes we seem to all know there must be better head coaching talent than Ken Whisenhut in the market place today.
Mediocrity seems to be acceptable to the fans in Arizona, in every season since the super bowl run, this team has slipped further down the ranking in almost every category except the rushing stat..and remember ..once you are last in any category there is only one way to go!!!
Another season ... errr..another losing season!
