When you first get a job right out of College you get paid a salary, even if you are the best and the brightest that is probably far lower than people who are in the same position but have been with the company for 5, 10, even 20 years.
I see people complaining about the same old cardinals and how little they are paying Steve Kiem. ( http://www.arizonasports.com/40/1602138/Report-Cardinals-GM-Keim-lowestpaid-in-NFL ). My first thought is he better damn well be the lowest paid GM in the NFL until he gets us back to the playoffs. The man is a first time GM in this league with absolutely no leverage except for him saying ive had interviews the last 3 years. Maybe he did poorly because he is bad at interviewing, who knows but the Bidwells have been able to see what his contributions to the organization have been over the last 10 years better than we are.
I think with recent moves over the last id say 3 to 5 years the younger Bidwell has really done a nice job in shedding the image of cheap skates. Wiz was in the top 5 in NFL salaries last year, and they will pay that again this year because of his contract. We have the highest paid WR in the NFL (i think), and he has extended contracts to CC, Wash, Dockett, and other players that have proven themselves that they are worth keeping.
The bidwells are not stupid, very far from it in fact. I am sure that if they were looking to hire a GM with 10 years experience that has built a Super Bowl winning team from ashes then i know they didn't go to him with here is 750k take it or leave it. I am sure the same can be said about a head coach. I expect the HC (if he is a first time head coach) to be paid in the bottom part of the league as well. If it was Andy Reid that has been to the playoffs 10 times in the last 12 years then i would expect him to have far more leverage in negotiationsw.
Just because there is a story about how a first time GM is not being paid as much as other GM's does not mean that the cardinals are cheap, it means they are smart. Now i want them to get the right coach for them, the right coach to get back to the playoffs, i dont care if its a high school coach for them, or a college head coach, or a damn OC comeing from another team, they just need to get the right guy. I have confidence in the cardinals to get that guy, so take all the time you need Steven Keim to get the coach you want. You have a kick ass DC that isnt going anywhere it looks like and you need to get this hiring right.
Thats my rant,
