Chip Kelly reportedly no longer in running for Browns job; Horton, Whisenhunt possible

USA TODAY Sports

The Browns have changed direction after they were "close" to a deal with the Oregon Ducks head coach.

Despite earlier reports that the Cleveland Browns were close to a deal to land Oregon Ducks head coach Chip Kelly as their new head coach, they are now reportedly regrouping and that Kelly is no longer a candidate.

How does this affect the Arizona Cardinals? Kelly is not connected to the Cards, but the Browns are.

Arizona head coach Ray Horton was interviewed for the position and Ken Whisenhunt may being considered by the Browns.

Horton is still a possibility to be hired as the Cardinals' head coach. He has gone through two interviews. He also interviewed with the Browns and the Bills, although the Bills have hired Doug Marrone.

Could it be that Horton does not get any head coaching job and stays as defensive coordinator? While just a few days ago it seemed like it was an inevitability that he would be a head coach somewhere, it looks like the Cards won't "have to" hire him to avoid losing him.
