Seahawks vs. Cardinals results: "No excuses" for slow start, no thought of replacing Carson Palmer

Seattle beats up Arizona on Thursday Night Football

The Arizona Cardinals were hoping to make a statement with the only game on TV in the league on Thursday Night. They sort of did, but nothing like what they wanted to. The fell behind 14-0 quickly in the game and, while they pulled themselves back into the game, they just didn't have anything offensively to be able to keep up.

"I thought we came out sluggish," said head coach Bruce Arians after the game, saying that they need to start games "faster on both sides of the ball.

However, before anyone could even ask about the game being on a short week, he quickly said, "no excuses as far as Thursday Night Football and all of that crap. We didn't break a sweat all week, so we should have been fresh."

Effort wasn't the issue, either, said Arians.

The fact that they turned the ball over and could not run the ball at all were bigger factors. "18 shots for 30 yards is not going to do it," he explained.

Quarterback Carson Palmer did not have a good night overall. He picked up some yardage later in the game and also threw  for a touchdown to rookie Jaron Brown, but he also threw two first half interceptions, bringing his season total to 13. He was sacked seven times as well.

Yet despite the turnovers, the Cardinals did not consider making a change at quarterback. Arians flatly said "no" when he was asked that question.

Arians wasn't thrilled with the start of the defense, either. He was not okay with the first half, "not after we gave them up 14 points -- way too late" to be considered a good performance.

Despite the comments of Arians, defensive end Calais Campbell said "we played a lot of good football."

They certainly had their moments. They forced three fumbles, two on sacks of quarterback Russell Wilson. They sacked three times. Campbell said, though, that they "just had too many lapses in assignments and other constants in the game."

Arians said that the defense "had three mental errors" in the first drive.

The offensive line suffered as well. They gave up seven sacks and 13 hits of Palmer. Seattle had nine tackles for losses. The running game produced only 30 yards.

Bradley Sowell looked very bad. Daryn Colledge got hurt and Nate Potter came in to replace him. Arians said it was Colledge's lower back and that they didn't have any other information yet.

Sowell put it perfectly. "Our offense is leaving our defense completely out to dry every week," he said. "If we can ever get something going, our defense will keep us in every game.

So we are left disappointed again. A big game that the Cards have a chance to make a statement in, and the one they give is that they still aren't good enough.
