Arizona Cardinals: How are the players from the 2013 draft class doing?

Jennifer Stewart-USA TODAY Sport

With the bye week, why not look at the rookies and their contributions on the field.

Midway through the Arizona Cardinals' season, the team sits at 4-4 and actually find themselves in the playoff hunt. There have been some surprises in the season, including the play of some of the team's draft picks. It is as good a time as ever to see the impact that the draft picks have made so far this season.

Jonathan Cooper, Round 1

Cooper's season ended before it even began, as he broke his leg during the preseason. He will not play this season. The unfortunate thing is that the team was counting on him for their offensive line play. With Cooper's absence, the team now plays Paul Fanaika, who has been a journeyman at best. He has not been an abject failure, but the difference in talent is clear.

Kevin Minter, Round 2

Minter has yet to take a snap on defense. He has missed time with a hamstring injury, but his lack of playing time is more related to the play of the veterans ahead of him. Karlos Dansby has been very, very productive and Daryl Washington is back. Neither leave the field on defense. Minter has played on special teams in five games and 75 snaps. He has no statistics to cite. He has not made any tackles on special teams. His impact on 2013 has been almost none so far.

Tyrann Mathieu, Round 3

Mathieu has been a gem. He has gotten significant playing time at nickel cornerback and has started some. Currently, he is starting at free safety and moving to slot corner in nickel downs. He is second on the team with 49 tackles. He has a sack, a forced fumble and two interceptions. He was recently named the league's Defensive Rookie of the Month for October.

Alex Okafor, Round 4

Okafor's season ended prematurely after he tore his biceps in the team's game against the New Orleans Saints. He had one tackle on the season and had played some on special teams.

Earl Watford, Round 4

Watford has yet to play. He was viewed as a developmental pick in many ways. He has been inactive for six of the team's eight games.

Stepfan Taylor, Round 5

Taylor got his first real playing time in Week 8 in place of Rashard Mendenhall. He carried the ball 14 times for 38 yards. On the season, he has gotten 17 carries for 47 yards and one reception for two yards. he plays a lot on special teams.

Ryan Swope, Round 6

Swope has retired after he suffered a concussion in his first practice. this came after several concussions in college.

Andre Ellington, Round 6

The rookie running back has become of the late round running backs to fin success with the Cardinals, adding his name to guys like LaRod Stephens-Howling, Tim Hightower, Johnny Johnson and Ronald Moore. He hs been the team's best offensive player. He has rushed for 333 yards on 43 carries and scored twice. He has caught 22 passes for 198 yards and a score. He broke out with a huge game last week when he was featured for the first time -- 15 carries, 154 yards and a touchdown.

D.C. Jefferson, Round 7

Jefferson has gotten little playing time at tight end. he got 10 snaps in Week 8. he has not caught a pass this season. he has been inactive in four games.

Overall:

The rookie class has not had much of an impact from top to bottom, but has gotten great play from Mathieu and Ellington.

How do you view the 2013 draft class in terms of success? Did Steve Keim and Bruce Arians have a good draft? Are you concerned with the lack of playing time? Or does it point to the fact that there are able players ahead of them?
