This is my prediction for the Cardinal's 2014 offseason. Feedback is appreciated.
I've identified the needs as quarterback, tight end, offensive line, cornerback, and outside linebacker.
KEY FREE AGENTS:
I fully expect Larry to restructure his deal, thus giving us more cap space.
Jared Veldheer, OT, Raiders- Personally, I am very tired of poor offensive line play and I really don't want to wait on another rookie. I want a proven player. "The Hulk" has been very solid for the Raiders, and I am praying that they let him go. He is 26 years old.
Lance Briggs, OLB, Bears- Lance is a nice pass rusher and I would love this addition. He attended the University of Arizona. However, I doubt the Bears let him leave. He would almost be 2014's version of the John Abraham situation. A talented pass rusher brought in the contribute and mentor the younger guys.
Robbie Gould, K, Bears- Another nice free agent to steal from the Bears. Gould is a great kicker, and would replace Feely.
KEY NON RETURNING-CUT PLAYERS:
Rashard Mendenhall- As much as I would like this, Bruce's man crush on him will keep him here.
Karlos Dansby- I really don't know what to do here. Minter is our future, but Dansby is so good and he's done so much for this team. I hope he stays.
Eric Winston- GOOD RIDDANCE
Dave Zastudil- Best punter in the league, hands down. Welcome back Dave.
Matt Shaugnessy- Shaugn has been very solid for us this year.
1 - Zach Mettenberger, QB, LSU- Zach has a terrific arm, and a very strong build. He has all of the intangibles needed for a pro-style quarterback. Palmer's deal has him set up for two years, so he could learn behind Palmer in 2014 and take over in 2015. Bruce Arians would work wonders with this guy.
2. Cyril Richardson, G, OT, Baylor- Talented guard to take over the right guard spot. Would give the Cards a line of: Veldheer / Cooper / Mack / Richardson / Our next pick.
3. James Hurst, OT, North Carolina- He is a superb athlete with great footwork, and would definitely fill a hole. The front office might ask Cooper about this one, and I'm sure they'll love what they hear.
4. Dri Archer, OW, Kent State. He runs a 4.2 and would give Bruce another weapon to work with. No excuses for Palmer this year.
