Both Bruce Arians and Larry Fitzgerald were quoted after the Cardinals loss as saying that "the Cardinals are still in control of their own destiny." Maybe I'm mistaken, but I don't see it. Even if the Cardinals win all four games (including a game against the Niners), they would still need the Seahawks to beat the Niners in order to make the playoffs. In that case, they would have split their head-to-head and division games, but the Cardinals would make it in because of a better record against similar opponents. But if the Cardinals win all four games and the Niners beat the Seahawks, the Niners are in by virtue of a better division record. Therefore, the Cardinals are not in control of their own playoff destiny, since they need help from the Seahawks. Someone please correct me if I am wrong -- I do find the tiebreakers and playoff scenarios awfully confusing. But I do think Arians and Fitzgerald may have misspoke.
