Arizona Cardinals 2013 draft class riddled with injuries

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Four players had their season end.

Heading into the 2013 season, Arizona Cardinals fans were raving about the first draft class of Bruce Arians and Steve Keim. However, three quarters through the season and the biggest impact that the drafted rookies have had has been on injured reserve.

It ended before it even started for sixth round pick Ryan Swope, who came into the league with questions about multiple concussions suffered in college. He promptly was concussed in practice and had to retire.

First round pick Jonathan Cooper broke his leg in the preseason and was lost for the season.

Fourth round pick Alex Okafor played a total of five defensive snaps before he tore his biceps and had to go on injured reserve.

Last Sunday against the St. Louis Rams, third round pick Tyrann Mathieu tore the ACL and LCL in his left knee. He is now on injured reserve.

Sixth round pick Andre Ellington missed one game with a knee injury, and Arians admitted that he was afraid that it was an ACL tear.

Second round pick Kevin Minter is not on injured reserve, but did miss a lot of practice and was inactive for mutuple games while hampered with a hamstring injury.

One draftee to avoid the injury bug is fifth rounder Stepfan Taylor. Earl Watford, drafted in the fourth round, also has avoided football injury, but was involved in a car accident.

Seventh round pick D.C. Jefferson did not get hurt, but he was released.

The draft class has been far from a failure, as Ellington and Mathieu both have been huge impacts on the field. However, with this many injuries now, it could raise the concern of durability for these players. If they were to continue with this year's trend, it could potentially be the biggest bust of a draft class in some time, even if it is just because of injuries.

Do the injuries from this season among the rookies cause you concern for the future of the team?
