1) That Falcons game against the 49ers was the hardest loss the Cardinals have had ever (in my recollection). I mean that it in let down. I can't remember another that was so deflating and we were not playing! Even the Super Bowl was disappointing but we're the Cardinals in the Super Bowl - in a sense it was honor to be invited.
2) No offense mods, no thread for MNF game when Cards needed it. No excuses. If you want to defend them, then fine. Defend them. They could have posted, and we let'em off the hook!
To the playoffs:
I remember this scenario before. Tampa Bay needing to help us out, us needing a win - for the playoffs.
I looked back, and I found out it was 1994. Wow. I am old. And that is a pretty good memory for myself since I was only 8. It wasn't easy being a kid and Cardinals fan...I digress.
We played before (entered 8-7 into game) the Tampa game in this case (this year we play afterwards). They were playing the Packers (8-7). We needed to beat the Falcons (who I looked back as an aside lost Green Bay the week before - not a big Falcons right now). We got all the way down to the 1 at the end down 10-6, the clock ran out. I remember thinking classic Cardinals, I can't believe I was so pessimistic at 8!
To add insult to injury, the Packers won too.
This year we need to flip the script as they say. We need a Bucs win and us.
Frankly, I think we have many advantages against the 49ers.
1) at Home (we're 6-1 with a loss only to Seattle - hey Cards fan we're the new 12th man but with fewer layers and more laid back) 2) They already have a playoff spot and no chance of winning NFC West (seriously the Ram are going to beat the Seahawks the week after we did in Seattle) 3) They just won a miracle on Monday - short week, already hyped, against a team that needs to win.
But, the Bucs game is another story. The Bucs did only lose by 2 (16-14) earlier against the Saints. They likely are playing for their coach's job (if that is not a forgone conclusion). They have improved. The Saints though are coming after losing to the Panthers. Why can't this game be not in the Super Dome?
One odds: http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/playoffodds Before the 49ers game, we we're at 23.9% of making the playoffs. Imagined if the Falcons won, it'd be around 50%...alas. Probably will be 14.8% (the % that NO doesn't have) or less.
