1 QB Geno Smith
If Geno Smith falls to us, we are taking him. If not; we will be going pass rusher with this pick. I have changed my pick from Barkley because of the likelyhood of Geno falling and think Geno is the better fit in the Arians offense at this point. If Barkley’s arm strength question marks are eliminated, I think he’s back on top of the draft board.
2 DE Margus Hunt If we get Geno in the 1st we are going with a pass rusher here either from the linebacker spot or the D-End spot. If we missed on Geno in the 1st we are probably looking at EJ Manuel, Ryan Nassib or Tyler Bray here. If Margus is available I’d like to see him picked up. He only has 3 years football experience and is an Athletic freak. We will need a replacement for Dockett soon and to have Cambell and Hunt manning the end positions would be awesome. Bonus: He’s an excellent special teamer.
3 C/G Travis Frederick We wait until the third round to address our need on the offensive line. Our tackle position is good enough for now with Levi, Bobbie and Potter. The middle of our line is the weak link and I thing Frederick provides great value here and fits a big need as a versatile inside lineman.
4 SS Shamarko Thomas There is no guarantee we get Rashad back or that Wilson will take a pay cut. We look to solidify that strong safety position with Shamarko Thomas. Not well known but the guy is fast and strong. Has all of the tools necessary to play SS.
5 CB Tyrann Mathieu I am not sure where he will end up being ranked, but this is about as high as I would draft Tyrann. It seems like a natural fit to have him join Peterson in the secondary to fill the hole in the slot that Adams leaves. The upside could be that he becomes good enough to man the number 2 corner spot. Bonus: He’s an excellent special teamer.
6 TE Michael Williams
We are short on TE’s. I think we need a good blocking TE with pass catching ability. Michael Williams is the pick I’d like to see the Cards make. He’s overshadowed by the other Alabama players and could be a huge steal.
6 SILB AJ Klein Here is where we pick up our young hitter for the middle of our LB core. There will be several options at this point in the draft but I have decided to go with Klein for his, not flashy but, consistent play.
Other notes:
1. I anticipate we fill our RB needs with current players, UFA and/or FA.
2. I don’t see Kolb back with the Cardinals this year.
