I've recently read an article on Bleacher Report discussing the possibility of the Cards acquiring Mallett from the Pats. I personally think that this may be a great alternative to free agent/QB draft pool. While in college, Mallett showed a lot of potential with his arm strength and patience in the pocket. Yes, he has needed to work on his footwork in the pocket and his decision making. However, he has had a couple of years in the Pats offensive system sitting behind Tom Brady. I'm not a Brady fan, but he is a great QB. Mallett has had the opportunity to develop, and hopefully mature. Under the guidance of Moore and Arians, I believe that this may be a good option for the Cards to explore. It is not a big risk, since his contract is not a beefy one like Kolb's. He is a much better alternative to Skelton or Lindley. If we shore up our offensive line in the draft, we could provide adequate protection to allow Mallett to go through his progression and put the ball downfield to the receivers. It would fit an offensive scheme that Arians has run in the past. If we can address the QB situation in this trade, we can focus the draft on other needs such as OL,DE/OLB,RB, and another TE.
