Just pure speculation on my part, but could the the 38th selection in the NFL draft be more telling to a team's success than the first?
Let's start with the premise that AZ doesn't consider QBs Geno Smith, Matt Barkley, Ryan Nassib etc..worth a first round choice and takes an DE/OLB (my guess) or an OL. What if Smith et.al. fall to the second round? Would they be a sensible pick to challenge Drew Stanton for a starting position? ( Bruce Arians has basically "guaranteed" Stanton the nod, because of his knowledge of his system.) IMO, if the pick isn't a QB, then Brian Hoyer will be the backup and Stanton the starter. I can't for the life of me, seeing a third round rookie (or later) outperforming, at least in Arians' eyes, to be the guy, even in a developmental stage.
So if QB is ignored in second round. will a QB be selected at all?
