Thanks to D-Was, Tyrann’s up in smoke

I was a huge supporter of the Cards rolling the dice on Tyrann Mathieu.

In my mind, the argument was pretty simple:

• We’d be able to get him at a discounted value
Patrick Peterson is apparently (we think) a good influence on him
• You can’t have enough guys who can play man coverage and make big plays
• Why not?

But after losing Daryl Washington to the same behavior that turned a star LSU Tiger into Towelie, I have a hard time seeing the Cards taking another risk on a guy who would so carelessly gamble with both his and the team’s fortunes.

I love D-Was’s game and overall he comes off as a good dude – same goes for Tyrann. And compared to what some NFL players have pulled off in the past (and the widespread belief that HGH might be just about everyone in the league) these guys made a pretty harmless mistake.

But given that smoking pot is right at the top of surest ways to get suspended in the NFL, both of these guys just needed to be smarter.
