In the first round of the SB Nation blogger mock draft that I and all the other NFL editors participated in, the Cardinals selected linebacker Barkevious Mingo instead of taking tackle Lane Johnson. Simply put, I thought that Mingo was a better prospect than Johnson and a pass rusher is definitely a player that can make an impact.
The same thing happened in the second round. Going just two picks before the Cards was guard Larry Warford, who went to the Detroit Lions. I did fall in some ways into the trap of feeling that I had to draft for need, I went with a guy that has a high upside in Oregon's Kyle Long.
One of the players available was DE Damontre Moore, but I did weigh need more than talent. However, Long does have an intriguing upside that allows him to project to both guard and tackle in the pros.
Looking in hindsight, which would think is the better option: Lane Johnson in round one and Damontre Moore in round two, or Mingo and Long the first two picks for the Cardinals?
