Arizona Cardinals getting younger on offense, defense

USA TODAY Sports

A look at where the Cardinals rank in age with the rest of the league.

One thing that the Arizona Cardinals are trying to do is get younger as a team. However, that is not something that is just being done for the sake of getting younger. They are getting younger, but have gotten older at some positions.

According to charts compiled and shared by ESPN's Mike Sando, the Cardinals have one of the more veteran defenses in the league. The Cards have the seventh oldest defense, where the players average 27.81 years old. They would be a little less, but they replaced Adrian Wilson with 35-year old Yeremiah Bell. They got younger at linebacker, replacing Paris Lenon with a veteran Karlos Dansby, but that could go even younger if Kevin Minter plays.

Offensively, the unit is pretty young. They are right in the middle of the pack, ranking 15th at 27.65 years old.

They only have one offensive line starter over 30 (Daryn Colledge). They have a 29-year old Larry Fitzgerald at receiver, but Andre Roberts and Michael Floyd counter that. Plus, Fitz is still in his prime. Carson Palmer at quarterback brings the average up. He is the fourth oldest starting QB in the league, but that is a positive thing. It means he still has it. The best QBs last quite a while in the league.

Is there anything significant in these numbers? You tell me!
