Have you heard enough about how we need to be drinking the Arizona Cardinals Kool-Aid and have big hopes for 2013?
I hope not, because this is, after all, a Cardinals site. But after reading what defensive end Calais Campbell said, you will be going back for another cup of the Cards Kool-Aid.
In an interview with CBS Sports' Mike Freeman, he had some strong words. He also took a bit of a shot at some of his former teammates.
"I think it's very likely we can win the division, yes," Campbell said. "I respect every opponent in our division. Every one. But I think of it this way. We were able to hang in a bunch of our division games without a real quarterback.
"I don't want to disrespect anyone but now we have a real quarterback to go with a good defense. When we play with a lead, we're hard to beat. This is the first time in years that we have an offense that matches our defense."
He said that he spoke with Palmer and the quarterback commented to him that he does not recall having any team with as strong a defense as the Cardinals could and should have.
Now, as for this "real quarterback" business, you know what he means. He means to say that they didn't have an established, successful quarterback. Of course, it is a bit of a shot, but I can't imagine any of the four guys (Kevin Kolb, John Skelton, Ryan Lindley or Brian Hoyer) being offended. They know how poorly they did. A real quarterback can stay healthy (Kolb). A real quarterback can hit a wide open Larry FItzgerald in the end zone (Skelton). A real quarterback can actually throw for an offensive touchdown (Lindley). A real quarterback has more than 100 pass attempts in five seasons (Hoyer).
Aside from the fact that what Campbell said about the Cardinals being able to win the division is exactly what he and any player is supposed to say, you get the feeling that he actually believes it.
Head coach Bruce Arians is talking wins. The is the vibe that O'Brien Schofield says there is with the team.
Excited yet? We've got more Kool-Aid. Drink it freely. Just don't operate a vehicle or heavy machinery thereafter.
