Darnell Dockett explains cutting his hair

Darnell Dockett at Fan Fest - USA TODAY Sports

If it was a sort of mandate by the head coach, Dockett isn't saying it.

Darnell Dockett gave his hair a bit of a makeover recently. He wasn't the only one. So did Ryan Williams, LaRon Byrd and Rashad Johnson, all losing their dreadlocks. Daryn Colledge also cut his hair, although from what I have heard people say he said on TV, head coach Bruce Arians would prefer it that way.

Ryan Williams said he did it because he didn't like how feminine it was. Darnell Dockett spoke to Darren Urban about it.

"The hair thing...I just wanted to do something a little different," he explained. "I've had dreads hair for over 11 years of my life. Right now I'm going into a very important year of my career, and I just felt like it was time. It's time for a change, and I felt like it was time for a new life. I'll call it like 'the rebirth.' It's actually easier. I can dive in the water, go swimming, do so much, so this is good for me."

Darnell Dockett and a rebirth? And his hair being cut off represents it. It is the anti-Sampson symbol. Sampson lost his strength when his hair was cut off. Dockett is using it as a new start.
