NFL training camp: Bruce Arians unhappy with Arizona Cardinals offensive line

Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

Before the pads went on, the head coach called out the unit on Sunday.

Back during the offseason, Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians made it a point to call out the wide receivers publicly. They responded rather quickly and were then praised. Arians took to the media again on Sunday and used them to make sure that everyone knew that he was not pleased with how the offensive line has been performing in training camp.

While he said it was too early to worry, he did note that there have been "too many mental errors," which he does not want to see. He did, though, note that the unit had not yet been able to work in full contact.

"We've got to get better," he said to the media, via team's web site. "I think they have enough pride to fix it. I think they are anxious to get the pads on. Of all the people that get hurt the most playing in shorts, it's the big guys."

They later practiced in pads on Sunday afternoon for the first time. I'm sure that the message was sent. I fully expect to see the unit improve and that Arians will be able to compliment the unit for their improvement.

There are key position battles going on at the tackle positions. At right tackle, Bobby Massie and Eric Winston are in competition while, at left tackle, it is Levi Brown and Nate Potter battling to start and protect Carson Palmer's blind side. Massie and Brown currently are running with the first team.
